Walked into a shop the other day and saw something of stbxh's for sale in the shop. Very distinctive so definitely his. We haven't sorted finances yet and he is abusive and difficult. Do I tell the solicitor?

How much was it worth?

Worth a couple of thousand, being sold for less than that. If he does it with the whole of his collection though, it's a significant erosion of his assets.

Ring the solicitor on Monday.

Sorry for your stress over all this and good luck getting it sorted.

I have just been told that what matters is assets and debts on the date of separation, not what happens afterwards. May be specific to Scottish law.

Or email about if it's not urgent. This is even better if you thought to get a picture of the object with your phone.

That certainly sounds logical, but I think that the concern is that turning physical assets into cash makes them much easier to conceal.

Miss, that's exactly it, he has a girlfriend and he is incredibly manipulative, I suspect that the money would not go through his account and cash would be stashed.

buy it cheap at the charity shop and re-sell on ebay? (obvs not serious but it's a thought...)

Unfortunately Tar, it's not a charity shop and cheap is still over a thousand pounds! If I had a thousand pounds I wouldn't be spending it on that!
