Contact: how far is too far for an overnight stay?

My DP is going for a contact order to turn his midweek afternoon contact into an overnight visit, as he's moving closer to them. He's currently 1hr15-30 away from them, he will soon be 45 mins away. The DC are 4 and 2.

Their mum says she will contest it as it's still too far, and the trip back in the morning would be 'distressing' for them. Does anyone have any experience of contact orders when the distance was in question?
Thanks.

TBH it's pretty much a throw of the dice, albeit dice slightly loaded in his favour.

Is the real problem the resulting reduction in her maintenance?

Thanks MrsB. TBH I think the real problem is that she simply doesn't want him to see them any more than he does now (she doesn't think it's a priority, 'it's more important that they're happy') - but she has accused him of only doing it to reduce his maintenance payments.

He's always paid way more than the minimum anyway, but now it's going through the legal route.
