Financial advice

We are going through the financial settlement in our divorce and trying to keep everything as amicable as possible. The solicitor has recommended mediation but I want to know what they do.

My understanding is that they try to keep the meeting on track, and point out any obvious imbalances. What we really need help with is financial detail, such as how do you compare a pension at 60 to a pension at 65.

Do they do this, or do we need a financial advisor as well?

When I went through divorce, we went through mediation and I found it a brilliant way of sorting everything out. They will tell you what information they will need and explain everything. I highly recommend this service.

Carol - when you say they explain everything, what do they actually do? Do they suggest how you should split the finances? Did you have an idea of what you were aiming for first?

We have agreed 50/50 so the end result should be fair to both. We just want to ensure it is so that the solicitors don't drag us into quarreling.
Found out today that we need a cash equivalent transfer value (CETV) so that we can compare apple with pears.

Wot fun this is, not!

I got divorced 3 years ago
My ex husband was a bully, abusive physically and mentally
It took me a long time to pick up the courage to divorce him, due to his violent behaviour
During the divorce proceeding, he made my life hell, like smashing my cars and my mums, abusive phone calls and threatening behaviour
The whole process was very draining and scary and I was suffering from depression and anxiety
Whilst all this happening,my brother also died which caused me more stress.
My ex also was brainwashing my kids, who started to resent me due to the divorce
This whole process effected me at work too, and eventually I quit my job
Due to the stress, heartache and feeling threatened and mentally not stable, I opted to pretty much let my ex husband have everything. I settled for a small financial amount just to ease the pressure and stress I was going through
After a long time I am now stable and getting on with my life and now regretting my decision on allowing him to keep everything
Can this situation be rectified now, despite I signed and said he can have it etc
