Decree NISI wait - Bury St Edmunds

I sent off my application for decree NISI in the middle of August and haven't heard anything since.

According to their email auto response it should have been dealt with around the 3rd October.

I phoned them last week and they said it had been dealt with on the 14th October and that I will get a letter "shortly".

Does anyone have any idea of how long it will actually take to get a date for the decree NISI?

No idea, I was told the wait was around 3 months. I sent mine to Bury about the same time you did and have heard nothing.

Thanks hellhas, at least it's not just me!

I was hoping to be divorced by the end of this year but it is looking unlikely now.

The solicitor I saw told me to expect to be divorced by the New Year but I agree, I don't think it will happen.

BSE court has lost the plot since it took on London. All timescales are out the window and trying to contact them is almost impossible- simple decree Nisi took 6 months and still waiting on Absolute after 4 more

Good God this is appalling! Mine was 4 weeks. What the hell is going on up there. I'm in London btw.

BSE is driving us insane, we sent the Decree NISI paperwork back and they received on 19th October, its now 10th Dec and nothing, all they can tell us 'its with the legal team' and they have a backlog. Its ridiculous .

I sent decree nisi 28.8 and only got letter back recently, I waited 3 months, that is current waiting time as Bury St Edmunds is the busiest and takes care of all London divorces as well. Don't even try to expect it so soon if you send it in October, wait until 10. 1 and then call them.

My Decree Nisi was submitted today to BSE and I’ve been advised it’s an 8-10 week wait and then a further 6 weeks to apply for absolute .. thinking about changing my name by deedpoll as I just can’t stomach having his surname for another 4 plus months!

I would not change name during divorce process, as you would need to contact them with details change and that might slow down process. I love my exes surname and I'll keep it :-) (Lush). We stayed friends so its good.

Thanks Chimera79
Its been a nightmare, so far this divorce (5 years separation) has taken over a year, now separated 6 years.
We have had to serve his ex twice (yes ridiculous right, cost us every time) just because the court found 1 mistake on the previous NISI application and told us we had to serve her again. Not even our solicitor could figure that out.
5 year divorces should be straight forward, utter PIA.
We have already cancelled our planned wedding and rescheduled, now we wont even get the Absolute in time for that one either. Angry

I don’t think @lillymoe is the one getting divorced....it’s her bloke. She is getting married. Good luck with that - more fool you.

@chimera79 thank you.
@NotBeingRobbed oh dear, sounds like you've had a rough ride with an ex, reading into your last comment. Sorry that you found a bad one.

Well you never know how things will turn out - the only way to be certain is not to marry!
