Shared Residency - who chooses the doctor?

My husband has a 50/50 shared residency order for his 7 year old son which has been in place for 2 years. He spends a week with us then a week with his mum and holidays are shared. The mother has moved further away from us and has moved doctors. She also refuses to give us details of the new doctor. We know we can find out details via the Local Authority but my question is if the child is taken ill when with us, her doctor is now a long way away, can we register him at our doctors as well? He has ongoing medical needs and dad has not been consulted on any of his care, which is breaking the court order. He also has developmental issues and we would like to have him assessed by a child psychologist, do we need to involve the mother? She is in denial about there being any problems and claims we want to label "her" son. Actually we want to help him deal with his problems. Any advice?

How far away have they moved? Has his school been changed as well? I'm fairly sure you can't be registered with two practices. I suppose it doesn't really matter which doctors he uses as either way he'll be spending alternate weeks away. Your husband needs to be more proactive wrt his medical care. You can get the child to see a psychologist without the consent of the mother but it's not really a good idea.

I assume the school and his GP are already aware of these developmental issues?

She's over 30 miles away. She wouldn't dare change his school so he has a very long journey. School are aware but won't do antsy thing without mother's consent. She won't agree as she doesn't accept there is an issue! Spoke to our doctor who suggests finding out who is doctor is and then discussing it with him. Mothers attitude is very obstructive and it's making it difficult to do anything.

Sounds like you've got your answer already then. Like I said, wherever his doctor is, he'll be away from them every other week so it doesn't matter where. What does matter is that your husband makes contact with the GP ASAP.
