Can STBXH insist on this?

We are in early stages of divorce. We both work full time. He earns £45K and I earn £35K. We have a DS (4).

I can afford to buy him out of marital home (with loan from family) but he can't afford to but me out (he is bad with money and can't get a loan).

He says he will not let me buy him out...as he doesn't want me to have the house. Only other alternative is to sell it (thereby incurring selling costs for both of us). Can he insist on this?

No. In the situation that you describe the court would allow you to buy him out. You need to get it to court if he won't agree.
