I’m in my late 40s and talked to my GP today. I think I might have it. Tests arranged in a forthright. Anyone else been through it and can offer a handhold? Or tell me what to expect?

Haven’t yet told my DH. I’m not sure if I should, until I go through the initial tests, at least.

Couple of weeks ago, I was walking back from the school run and I was absentmindedly listening to the chatter of the parents in front of me, musing whether it was Portuguese or Spanish.... when I looked up and I realised I had no idea when or where I was. Just for a split second and as panic seeped in, I remember clinging on to their voices.. parents... so school.. but I had no idea if it was morning or afternoon, if I should be turning around because I was meant to be picking up... then I realised I wasn’t sure how old my daughter was or if she was still in that school.

I’m scared shitless. Lots of absent minded behaviour in the last year that I’ve easily dismissed until this happened.

Bumping for you.

I hope you get some answers soon. I have not experienced this myself but I know there are a few reasons something like that might happen. My DM once had a really scary episode where she woke up and thought it was around 15 year in the past. Ultimately it was to do with a migraine - although when I was trying to get the out of hours doctor to come his main concern was that it might be diabetes.

I have also had a friend who had ‘petit mal’ episodes - which are a from of epilepsy where you go vacant for minutes at a time and aren’t aware of it - she would just go blank and still and wouldn’t have heard anything.

Neither of those are as serious as dementia - so I hope you can worry less.

Maybe tell your husband before you know what’s going on so you can be supported

Also you might get more answers if you get this thread moved to general health? @mnhq?

Thanks girlwhowears. I don’t get migraines and the GP ran through the possibility of stroke (my Dad has had a few so more clued up there). From what I’m reading, it’s quite difficult to diagnose in younger people and can take years. I guess I was hoping to hear from anyone who’s been through it as my worst fear is that I’m told it’s nothing (but it’s just missed).

I can't answer your question OP, but I can sympathise. I experienced something similar in Tescos car park. I found myself returning a trolley to the bay and wondering where I was, what time and day it was. All I knew was I had to put the trolley back. Luckily the panic passed after a few minutes, and I've had nothing since. I hope you find peace of mind soon.

@AbsentmindedAlice I wondered how this turned out and if you are ok? (I know it’s an older thread) I’m having lots of symptoms - including being in a park with my dogs this eve - a Pari I’ve been in hundreds of times before. I could not remember the name of it. Not momentarily for a whole fifteen minutes until I could find a sign with a name on. Also late forties and hoping it’s to do with menopause
