We are going to London for a wedding and as we never go as a family would like to see a show whilst there. I have 2 dds who are 6 and 4. My 2 questions are, is there anything anyone can recommend and also is it best to get tickets from ticket master etc or there other ways? I was thinking of The Lion King but what else is there?

Be aware that Lion King is not on on a Monday if that's one of your days. My mum was going to book it as a surprise for my 6 year old DS for a recent London trip but, when it wasn't available, she booked Billy Elliot instead. shock blush

Matilda is amazing but maybe bit old for your 4 yr old...maybe. Dont think it is on on a monday. So shrek, funny and easy to follow.

Try the Polka theatre in Wimbledon. It's all for children.

Thank you Cataline. Oh how disappointing for your mum. We will be looking for a Sunday matinee which I know lion king does. Not sure if it will limit us for other shows though.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? My friend took his 3 yo a few weeks ago and had fun

Whatever you do DO NOT GO AND SEE AVENUE Q - I took my niece who was about 9 at the time - oh my god it was very graphic - puppets having sex and singing about porn

Yes, yes to the polka theatre! It's brilliant.

I totally recommend the Davenports Magic Theatre at Charring Cross. It is not too expensive, and only about 30 in the audience (it is tiny). If you sit near the front, you will probably get asked to be involved! Brilliant fun alternative to a musical.

The 4 year old might be scared by Lion King. Two children that age had to be taken out hysterical duringvthecstsmpedec when we saw it. Dd was 6.

Similarly Matilda is wonderful but quite dark & intense in places - a 4 year old will get bored.

That should read during the stampede in lion king.
