Just a little side dish to the thread about orgasms

Chew and ponder...grin

AnyFucker Wed 18-Feb-09 20:04:20

I gave up after the 1st paragraph

I read the first paragraph and the conclusion.

The conclusion was quite interesting. I didn't see the orgasms thread (sob).

It's our low self esteem.

LucyEllensmummy Wed 18-Feb-09 20:25:04

feck, i didnt get much further - seriously badly written.

Where is the orgasm thread???

MiTochondrialEve Wed 18-Feb-09 20:29:08

LucyEllensmummy Wed 18-Feb-09 20:35:00

are you a scientist M.Eve? Intriguing nickname

MiTochondrialEve Wed 18-Feb-09 20:36:51

It's MT!

MiTochondrialEve Wed 18-Feb-09 20:37:02

and in me dreams!

MiTochondrialEve Wed 18-Feb-09 20:56:37

maybe in 10 years!

ABetaDad Wed 18-Feb-09 21:01:55

Scan down the linked article but just read the bolded sentences to get the gist.

The orgasm thread is better though. wink

ABetaDad Wed 18-Feb-09 21:06:51

Actually - just had a thought about the one thing in the article that did really catch my eye.

Only 40% of men who have ever lived went on to have children but 80% of women did.

Its the same in all animal populations. As the artcile says, males tend to get killed doing extreme or dangerous stuff (e.g hunting, fighting) before they have kids or tend to not have childen because they are at the extreme low end of mental ability.

Hey that makes me an extraordinarily evolutionarily sucessful male having had 2 kids!

MyNameIsInigoMontoya Wed 18-Feb-09 21:06:58

I read it all - it's heavy going the way it's written/printed, but interesting - some food for thought!

MiTochondrialEve Wed 18-Feb-09 21:11:17

It would ABetaDad, but the genes in you will have been carried in both male and female bodies throughout evolutuonary time - just as in me they will have been in males too. The big corrolate is probably because males are statisically shown to endulge in more risky behaviiour than females, not that they have faced more general risk.

yama Wed 18-Feb-09 21:12:13

You read it all Inigo? Prepare to die.

(Sorry: it's from the film)

MiTochondrialEve Wed 18-Feb-09 21:15:21

In other words, we are all exraoprdinarily successful. But thats not forgetting also blood relatives. Some brothers will have forsaken mating opportunity (or lack of it more like) to provide protection/sustenence for blood relevives - sisters, neices, nephews. Just becasue an individual doesn't mate, doesn;t mean his genes don;t carry on in the gene pool. This is the environment cooperation and alturism evoluved

LucyEllensmummy Wed 18-Feb-09 21:18:29

MT dont become a scientist, you will be poor and frustrated

ABetaDad Wed 18-Feb-09 21:20:48

MiTochondrialEve - so men can be selfless, lay down their life for others, and forsake mating?

Well thats a bit of a different take on the usual media stereotype of men being selfish, cowardly, lazy good for nothings who would mate with anything given half a chance. hmm

MiTochondrialEve Wed 18-Feb-09 21:33:51

Oh. yes, and women can too. Men are more risky though, take more risks to mate or impress females, which notches up their mortality rate also.

MiTochondrialEve Wed 18-Feb-09 21:36:16

Aw, LEM. You sound like your talking from expereince.

MiTochondrialEve Wed 18-Feb-09 21:46:00

Great food for thought Inigo, I agree!
