Any real advice to help conception?

Evening all

My wife and I have started trying for our first child and we've just finished the first month with a negative test.

I know that statistically it was unlikely that we would succeed within the first month, so I wasn't overly surprised, but a little disappointed about it non the less.

There are a lot of threads/sites with advice to help women boost their chances of conceiving but does anyone have useful, real world advice for the male side?

Thanks

Hey there. Good luck with it! The only real advice I got was to make sure you keep the danglies happy and healthy. No mega tight underwear, try not to get them too hot. I was also told only to have sex 2-3 times over the "right time". No idea whether it's true.

I think the main thing is to not feel pressure and just enjoy it. The stuff norniron talks about sounds right - although I'd want to verify from nhs if the "only the right times" bit is scientifically proven Grin

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the advice.

Was just wondering as there seems to be pages and pages of do's/don't for women, and only basic advice for men "drink less, lose weight and keep the 'danglies' cool"

Thanks again

I think focussing on trying to have sex every other day or close as possible is a good idea. Frequency comes up seldomly but it is more implant than timing in my view.

*important

Climaxing together helps too. I think you can also get a male pre-conception multivitamin.

Sex most days if poss. Missionary position. Get her off afterwards, as the cervix can dip forward (into the pool of semen) during orgasm. Get her to keep a cushion under her bum for about 20 minutes afterwards to keep as much semen inside as poss.

Good luck! :)

As well as not drinking, you should stop smoking and reduce caffeine intake, as well as thinking about how healthy your diet is. I agree about taking a good multivitamin, and avoiding tight underwear/clothes.

There may be some chemical reasons that help or hinder both of you in making a healthy baby

* Go for a holiday in the sun to increase your Vitamin D - up to 3 months before you want to start
* Eat lots of oily fish like salmon, plus flaxseeds and walnuts etc which have lots of Omega-3

Evening guys

Thanks for all the advice . Happy to say that month 2 appears to have been a success! the test done last week said 3-4 weeks, and we have a docotrs appointment set, i assum with the midwife brigade

Am well aware not to get over excited yet , as we are very early on, but at least we know the equipment works!

We were in the same boat, trying for a few months, we found it hard as ovulation was slightly different each month.

In the end, decided to have sex every other day during the ‘action time’ and caught straight away.

Hope this helps guys.
