Acne in men

If you suffered acne as a teenager, at what age did it improve?

My 19 yr old son has severe acne that has not responded to the vast array of antibiotics and topical lotions. It is likely that he will need to go on to roaccutane. He has been referred to a dermatologist and is awaiting his first appt.

Any men out there that can share their positive experiences? I feel so desperately sorry for my lovely son.

Well now....have you heard about the supposed link between acne and a mite called "The Demodex Mite"?

There is research that has proved Demodex is probably the cause of rosacea and could be linked to acne.

have a google...there are some ways to help oneself....could be worth mentioning to the dermatologist.

In the meantime...Michael Fassbender the actor suffered from quite severe acne in his late teens...hasn't done him any harm at all. I knew him back in the day...and he was just as confident then as he is now.

DH had serious acne as a teenager, lots of cysts, and tried various lotions, antibiotics, the lot. His dermatologist prescribed roaccutane when he was 19 back then it was still an experimental treatment and it was like a miracle cure. The acne did relapse somewhat after about a year, at which point he had a second course of roaccutane which completely got rid of it. DH thinks it's great stuff and did not personally suffer any adverse side effects.

Thanks for your replies.

That's interesting, Neo. Not heard about that.

That's encouraging, Fossil. I really hope my son has the same outcome as your husband.
