Help - pedal for Scotland this weekend. Rain!

I'm doing Pedal for Scotland this weekend. Current forecast is for it to be pishing with rain for most of the day. In addition, I will probably be standing around in a park at 6.30am for half an hour waiting for my wave to go at the back of 7. Top tips please for 44 miles in the rain?

I have goretex shoes and coat. Planning to wear 3/4 tights. Should I take bin bags to go over myself for the hanging around bit? (I've done this at 10ks before). Is there any benefit in taking dry clothes or do I just get wet and stay wet? I don't go v fast so I'll be out for at least 4 hours.

Bin bags for the start sounds like a good idea, at least you'll start off dry. If they have a luggage transfer this year then it might be good to have dry clothes for the end, but I probably wouldn't be bothered to carry them with me. The good news is, it's not meant to rain as much in the East so you'll be heading towards dryness! And there's a westerly wind to help you along. Have fun! I did it a few years ago and really enjoyed it.

I always find that its better to be warm and slightly sweaty on top, so wear tight shower proof and absorbent top over the core trunk, and then let Nature's water proof skin take care of the legs. so you 3/4 tights would do if the temperature is ok.
If there's rain and warm temperatures the sweat builds up if you over wrap but if cold draws out your energy.
If too cold at the start those bin bags as a kilt, over the legs will get the conversation going. Once you hit the road you'll be soaked in 10 minutes so have some fun with the binnie kilts.

Thanks all. I'm from the east so I will be leaving the car at the finish and being bussed over to the start so I'll leave some dry clothes in the car To change into. Lots of thin layers for the ride I think.

Now I'm off to consider my food choices...
