(42 Posts)Having to start a thread because no one else will understand my deep joy at Cancellara's first victory of the season (his last season )
. Lovely, lovely Spartacus
Also I bought a road bike, having controlled my arthritis with some epicly good drugs and more amazingly yoga I am taking to the road with intent this year with the plan to do a 50k ride by the end. If my beloved can ride with fractured vertebra so can I! Should be interesting I am NOT getting clip in pedals though. Nope.
<pedals past nonchalantly in her new helmet>
<learns some new tricks to show off when anyone arrives>
What about that cross rider with a motor in the frame then eh? From an engineering point of veiw I'd love to see it.
He looks in good shape, maybe he has one more Paris Roubaix in him.
Just finished watching the men's cyclo cross championships, will have to watch the rest on Eurosport catchup. Apparently the woman with the motorised bike came nowhere near winning so that was pointless. That being said motors are old school and electro magnetic wheels are the way to go

Wow! I had to send that article straight off to DS1, we had a very overexcited discussion about motorised doping earlier on, those wheels will blow his mind.
Do you believe the 'it wasn't my bike I rode it by accident' defence of the woman? I know it doesn't matter technically either way but surely she would have noticed if it had a motor or was it not even on.
For a man who has broken his vertebra twice recently he looks in great shape. Embarrassed to say I didn't know how old he was until just now. Somehow presumed he was nearer my age, cycling in all weathers not that good for wrinkles eh?
I don't think she knew about it, but I also don't think she did it alone. She's 19 and presumably would have had to keep it hidden from all the team mechanics etc. It seems a bit sophisticated for her to do it alone.
The conspiracy theory is that she was made an example of by the UCI as a warning because they know it goes on in the pro peloton but didn't want to bust anyone too high profile.
I think 'UGH' is the only sentiment I can muster about that right now.
On a funnier note DS1 (a week of 16 and proud owner of his first carbon road bike, second hand but beautifully looked after) shaved his legs for some reason this weekend and did a much better job than I have ever done to mine. The sod. If he came off I think I'd be more worried about the bike than his road rash at the moment!
We can cheer ourselves up with this (hope you have Eurosport ) www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest-news/catch-behind-the-scenes-documentary-with-cancellara-and-trek-on-eurosport-tonight-209864
Your son is obviously much more flexible and doesn't need to hack blindly at those hard to reach places 🚴🏼💈
I have that ready to record when it is on next, as a special treat to myself it's rigged to copy the HD version . If I knew you better I'd kiss you.
Was very excited to see that more of the cycling press online today have started to run articles about the electromagnetic wheels, I felt very smug that I'd read about it last night.
I have just seen that there is a Cycling channel if you have Sky its channel 464 I'll have to check it out. In between the Dubai tour and the Volta Comunitat
Hello you two!
Very pleased to see Spartacus taking a win. I'll be sorry to see him retire not as sorry as MrSlant of course
Happy days, the new season has started. I'm just watching highlights of the Great Ocean Road Race, with commentary by our old mate Cadel, and have set the planner for Dubai & the Volta next week.
DH has treated himself to a mountain bike, so now he has a friend for his road bike, and he has just joined a local cycling club. I might have to take up cycling myself or I'll never see him.
Was quite scandalised about the motorised bike. Hope it's an isolated incident, but I suspect not.
Evening all.
Really good news about arthritis and Spartacus, obv for separate reasons! Really pleased at you getting a road bike Mrs. Good for you unless it has a little helper under the saddle
And poor old Alpecin being wipped out by a Brit who was easily confused by the driving thing.
electromagnetic wheels - I saw a bit on tweet deck but glossed over it. Will check back soon.
Are we thinking of getting the old peloton out of winter training schedules and back up and spinning for the classics at all?
Still on Spech and he's still faultless.
Hi DA! Greetings!
Felicity - I'm agreeing with you re her age and the degree of dishonesty she would have to have shown to get it passed the mechs and everyone else in the team. One does smell a conspiracy, far beyond her own actions.
Yay, new year and the team are getting out on the rollers! Knew if I kept on cycling by the peloton would all group.
The Alpecin accident was awful. Only made slightly better by the brilliant tweets of Chad Haga. It really brings home how vulnerable they are out there even if they are training with high class squads.
Very excited by my bike, it's a Boardman, sadly the budget didn't allow for motors of any kind as I'd blown every penny on DS1's Giant propel.
Well Dubai was a bit of a thriller, no spoilers but do catch the highlights!
We followed it on twitter at work. Managed to get the office computer to allow us to look at the shots of the winner. Anyone who tells you we adjusted the lighting for optimal viewing obviously didn't realise we had just finished our allotted time for the bright daylight lamp, it wasn't affecting screen viewing at all.
It was exciting wasn't it? Definitely worth watching the highlights
Shame about the crash in Dubai. But I was chuffed with the result in Valencia.
Didn't see the crash in Dubai <goes off to search> but loved the result in Valencia too, was cheering the winner on all the way up that hill in the last km. He's hopefully coming into good form for the classics, and will have better luck this year
Didn't realise Dubai was on until I saw it had recorded today. Just watching Stage 3 now. Nice to see my love Kittel riding
I thought it was next week, Felix, but realised in time to record it. Your Kittel is looking in good form
Oh he's just so lovely. He posted a very nice photo on Instagram the other day wearing his super tight skin suit
He's looking, umm, very fit. It's so hard to not sound pervy whilst admiring his musculature you know. <goes immediately to get instagram> <purely to help DS1 develop as a cyclist>
