Just that really... It's a South African name I think.
Is the N silent?

I stab a guess at n-vim-bee

I think the "ng" is like the "ng" in "ing" but without the "i ". It sort of comes from your throat rather than your mouth.

I don't think the N is silent. The author Ngaigo Marsh is "Nai-go".
But I am no expert in African pronounciation.

Id blend the N and G rather than miss it off. Like the first syllable of anger blends IYSWIM. With a b sound like in bus the the end.

something like nngava-Im-b. Maybe.

I'd guess ng-vam-bay or maybe ng-a-vam-bay (with the ng like in ing, as described above).

I'd ask the person concerned how they pronounce their name, if you can. Or if you can't do that then give it your best go.

Oh yes, blend like in ing, much better example!

I'd say 'ngav-ee-am-bee'

Ngaio Marsh was from a Maori family. I knew a relative of hers who'd been named after her, and it was pronounced Nai-o or should I spell that Nigh-o ?
