R3 Composer of the Week

This should possibly be elsewhere on Mumsnet as I imagine I will be told very forcefully that I Am Being Unreasonable! But I cannot bear it that Charlie Mingus is COTW this week and there is a whole hour devoted to him at midday each day, because I have never learned to like jazz, to put it mildly, and I have just had to turn the radio off as whatever they were playing was hurting my ears. Yes I know jazz is a great art form and extremely well-respected and brilliant and all that but I still hate it and I wish R3 would stick to classical composers (which could of course be Stockhausen which I would also hate) for programmes like this.

BTW I can't listen to a CD instead because I am at work. I have the radio on because I am on my own and it is too quiet otherwise. And I can't listen to anything I would prefer on listen again because the sound quality on my computer is appalling.

Well you're not alone - the debate rages on the R3 website here...

But Radio 3 has always played jazz, right from its earliest days so its not really that much of a departure.

oh thanks for alerting me to the message board debate Katisha, I'd looked for one but not found.
Yes I know they have always played jazz, it's just having him as COTW I object to!
