no, me neither - to add insult to injury I was staying near stratford for the first two weeks and went every day for returned tickets, but nothing doing. When I spent one whole day there shopping (which I recommend, btw), none of the shop assistants was even aware he was coming!

Tickets for London go on sale I think 12th Sep, so there is hope yet.

I went - and it was fab. I bought tickets a year ago, and it was well worth the wait! The entire cast was fantastic - not just David T and Patrick Stewart. Gertrude was superb.

I was there last week. Gertrude, I've always had trouble with her, but she made far more sense to me this time than she ever has. And Oliver Ford Davies, gotta love him.

DP was a bit meh about going. He bought the tickets for me for Christmas, he won't usually watch a drama or read fiction, but he was slightly tearful and said it was too good. (Obviously I slapped him round the head and told him to get a grip, but you see his point.)

FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!

DT looked exhausted at the end, could hardly even smile. 4 hours of acting and he seemed to spend a good chunk running too.

Yes, it was a very physical performance, wasn't it?
But he seemed delighted by the applause at the end - genuinely delighted and almost surprised. I did expect knickers to be thrown at him at one stage - there were a lot of swooning ladies and adolescents in the audience!

I was tempted to ebay them - £600 a pair for some Saturdays! But I'm glad I held on to them; the night will stay with me forever. Swoon.

I'm sure they'd have to have told you in advance of buying the tickets if the advertised actor won't be in it. That said, I saw a stand-in when Daniel Day Lewis stepped out of Hamlet, years back. The understudy was Jeremy Northam - and he was absolutely brilliant!

I'm going on Thursday with DH - got a short break through RSC. Not my cup of tea (got tickets for DH's birthday) but I am interested to see what he is like.....

I went early on - 29th July and loved it. DT was good but as other posters have said the rest of the cast were fantastic too. I laughed so much at Oliver Ford Davies!
annaje (and everyone else still to go) - hope you enjoy. Let us know what you think!

Will report back and let you know how it went - we could only get the matinee performance. Personally I am looking forward to a night away from the kids in a moderately posh hotel.......
