He still won’t believe he’s being scammed

My mum‘s husband has been the victim of scammers for about the last 10 years. Over that time he has paid these people approximately £250,000, some of which was his own money from inheritance and some of which is money that my mum gave him. It is such a glaringly obvious scam to everybody else but they have obviously got completely inside his head (I would say brain but I’m struggling to believe that he has one). We thought it had all been dropped as my mum promised not to send any more money and her husband has no more money to send. However we have just found out that he has persuaded my mum to give him the rest of her life savings and he has sent this money to the scammers. There is one last payment due apparently before they will receive their £62 million! Is there anything that we can do? Can we suggest that he has mental health problems and needs to be sectioned? I tried action fraud years ago when we first became aware of this issue but because my mother‘s husband doesn’t believe he’s being scammed there was very little that they could do. We feel so helpless. There must be something that we can do surely. Any ideas anyone?
