Birmingham Mugging (Disgusting)

LukeJR · 13/11/2017 08:53

I've just found out that my cousin has been mugged, this happened yesterday. He tells me that he was on the phone when it happened, but I have reason to believe that he had his phone out using the GPS to locate where he needed to go. I've told him before about never taking your phone out, (or if you do take a cheaper one)- but he is far better off only taking his phone out in safe areas.

In twn this happened, he told me how he didn't feel safe. Even told me how the homeless people were becoming more and more. It's been a while (like a long long time since I've been to town) but is it really this bad now? He told me that he was pushed into a wll and next thing he knew the phone was snatched from him. No idea what to think, but since it was on contract- within 24 hours we have cancelled the SIM, the Device, and alerted the Police along with getting an appointment where the officer will contact us within 3 days.

I would like to know it takes 3 days, but I have no idea myself really. As for what was stolen: Samsung GX8 I find it disgusting that people can do this, but in all honesty- It doesn't surprise me. Some people are just fkin disgusting and vile, and this is one of those perfect examples. Before you ask whether we have contacted the service provider (Yes, so the scumbags won't be able to add a bill) although this was all new to him and myself, We got through this like it was common knowledge. And everything is now sorted.

At the end of the day, I'm just happy to have him back safe & sound. And they didn't really steal much, just a phone to purchase drugs that will end their sad little lives. Fine by me, I hope they rot (sorry, I just seriously HATE anyone who can do this someone)

Thanks for reading,

I can't imagine getting that aerated over a phone, even if it had been mine or my dcs. Is your cousin this angry? Why are you so cross?

There's no such thing as a Samsung GX8. It's Huawei that make gx8s

This would be better posted on Facebook.

There's no point posting it on FB (I don't count is as a big deal, I just wanted to report it to those who live in that area)

Glad he's not injured. Yep homelessness is a huge problem in Birmingham, as else where. I,ve written to my MP, will you OP?

Report
LukeJR · 13/11/2017 10:26

Yes, I have already started writing. But my family are going to write to the MP tomorrow.

Well most of us don't " live in that area"
Glad nobody was hurt though

I just thought Facebook might have local boards and someone or some others might know of similar/know if there are gangs targeting at present.
They may even have online petitions or contact details for MPs regarding the homeless.

Maybe so, but I'm not a fan of FaceBook for many reasons. I don't wish to go into detail but I've never liked Facebook, it's just boring to me and overall (maybe it can be helpful for things like this) but I believe that there are other ways to get the message across without social media. And that is by telling your neighbors.

Ok sorry, didn’t realise Mumsnet wasn’t social media but really your neighbours-always thought it was more geographically varied than Birmingham, my mistake.

I live in Birmingham. Thank you for your report. What would you like me to do about this?

Where in Birmingham did it happen? Unfortunately crime has risen 40% across the West Midlands in the last year due to cutbacks. The police don’t have the resources to do anything preventative so it’s all reactive now.
I’ve been burgled 4 times this year. My neighbour 7. We’ve got cctv, increased security, have nothing on show, everything possible. Even the police say they can’t advise anything else we can do. They know who is doing it, but the problem is that every time they are caught and prosecuted, the judges let them off with a slap on the wrist because of prison overcrowding. It’s terrible. More needs to be done. Please, please write to your local MP to ask for increased funding to the police (everyone!)

I’m assuming from this that you live in Birmingham too. Having lived in Birmingham my whole life, I’m confused as to why you think that this kind of incident is shocking and unusual? Don’t you watch the local news? I’d like to know where about in the city you live to be so shocked by crime.

I'm near Birmingham.
The German market will bring thousands more people in the next few weeks so I can't see it being a one off.
Hope your family member is ok op and thanks for the warning.

@Bluelonerose,
Thank you for your kind words.
I'm not going to The German Market, not after what's going on lately. I'm not saying we should avoid going there, but I don't fancy it this year.

@FairyMcHairy,
It's not that I'm shocked that it is happening in Birmingham. The truth is the fact that Crime is just another thing that doesn't need to exist. I think we can all agree how annoying & pathetic it all really is.

I think it's all in the past now anyways. Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. I know it will (not the same people) I fkin hope.. But either way, stay safe out there!
