Been broken into... What happens now?

Just got home to find house has had someone else in it but door not damaged, was locked. However fridge half way across kitchen, tv on floor, tv unit pulled out, stuff everywhere - nothing missing?? I don't understand how they got in? Police are coming tomorrow morning to take fingerprints. What happens now?

Worried it could be my ex (daughter's Dad) as he is the only person who has ever had a key. Though he returned it when he left, but could have had it copied I guess...
There are a LOT of issues with my ex, but nothing recent. No contact for a long time. Lives 70 miles away.

Whoever it is was either a locksmith, got hold of a key (how?!), performed some sort of witchcraft and clearly was only trying to scare me as nothing is missing? So lost. Daughter is with my Mum. I can't move/eat/function. Shaking. This is my home. My child's home and some heartless creature has invaded our PERSONAL space. I feel sick

What an awful invasion of your home.
What response have you had from the police?

Oh that's horrible Sad

I wouldn't stay there tonight, not because it's not safe just because I don't think you should be alone after such a fright. Can you go and stay at your mum's with your dd?

Hope you're managing to get some sleep and the police turn up first thing Flowers

So sorry OP, we were burgled recently and it's a heartbreaking situation. Our locks and windows were also not broken but the bastard used a 'key bumping' set. Google it, can get them cheap on amazon for some fucked up reason. I hope you manage to feel safe again in your home. Just sit tight and try not to touch anything which could have a fingerprint or footprint on xx
