Grocery shop for 3 adults, 2 dogs

I'm trying to change my ways and economise. How much do you think a grocery shop should be for me and two strapping adult DC, plus 2 dogs?

I spend about £3.50/4 pw on dog food. They're happy on that so I'll leave that. I have enough toiletries and cleaning supplies to last until the zombie apocalypse. I've got it down to £70pw, do you think that's too high? I shop at Tesco and it's too much inconvenience to change that.

I don't think that's very high at all. Our one large dog costs us the equivalent of about 20 pounds per week because he eats a raw diet.

Our shopping bill for two adults and two tall tweens is about the same as yours or slightly more and we eat NO convenience foods at all. The only luxuries are fresh unsalted nuts (expensive) and a lot of fruit and one packet of biscuits.

Henny we have a little convenience food, some breaded fish fillets and oven chips but other than that it's regular food. I've switched mostly to frozen fruit as I'm sick of the waste, everything except for apples was going off.

What are you cooking? I'm doing risottos, soups, rice pudding, bread and butter pudding etc. It's like the 70s at my house! We have one packet of biscuits too

Well we're in Oz and it's winter....so lots of veg based curries and soups. We also have kangaroo mince bolognaise...which is much cheaper than beef. Also kangaroo steak with roast veg or cauliflower rice. Caulis are about a pound each so super cheap.

We also have chicken thigh fillets with either home made wedges or roast potatoes...another fave is home made pizza. I make the dough myself using Jamie Oliver's recipe.

No puddings really aside from the odd tray bake I might make or occasional tub of icecream.

If we have soup at night then we team it wth a cheese toastie each. We're all quite slim and light eaters. If someone was still hungry, there are always nuts or eggs from our chickens or more soup!

I think you are doing pretty well. We are 2 adults and 2 dogs. We spend about £10 a week on dog food and between about £50 a week on food for us.

Me and DH are both vegetarian so that makes it cheaper. We eat lots of lentils, chickpeas, beans, nuts and buy in bulk (usually in indian supermarkets).

We do a big shop for things like lentils, chickpeas, rice, pasta, tinned tomatoes, different beans, gram flour, coconut milk and spices about once every 4 or 5 months.

We do a big supermarket shop for things like teabags, coffee, milk (we only use oat milk), bread about every 6 weeks.

We then shop weekly for fruit and veg. We buy as much as we can from the local market - works out cheaper and not wrapped in plastic.

We eat lots of curries and veggie chilli and things like black bean burgers, chickpea burgers, lentil bolognaise, spinach and mushroom lasagne, nut roast, vegetable stews.

Just did another shop, £71. I did it online and tried to get it below £70 but no can do. We still have some things left from last week though so I think I'm over buying on some things. Going to do a meal planner and stop winging it.
