It's disappeared. I heard something about her being trolled but no details. I've been reading Froogs for years, I'd miss her if she was gone! Sad

It’s gone Sad

Too much online abuse... such a sad digital world we live in.

Why did she get online abuse though, it's puzzling. I wouldn't have thought her blog was particularly controversial. What a pity. Her blog helped me get on top of my finances a couple of years ago, it was great. Felt like I knew her, "DB" and their dogs!

There was a thread on Moneysavingexpert asking where FQ had gone and that got zapped as it got quite nasty - I read it at the start but don't see how ended.

Personally, I got bored of the blog. Admittedly, I only started reading it after she had cleared most of her debt, but just before she bought the house in France. I think that frugal blogs can be quite dull. I mean, they can be great when you are following someone to clear their debt, as you, as the reader is joining them on their journey, but everyday frugal living is pretty dull. There is only so much content you can do on 'not spending any money' before it becomes repetitive.

Very sad that Froogs 'flicked the switch' without an explanation to her loyal readers. Her posts were absolutely brilliant and full of fantastic ideas for saving money and getting out of debt. I have no doubt that marriages were saved, families kept in tact, and life continued for people at the brink of financial despair because of this woman's work. Her how to get out of depth strategies worked and gave hope and encouragement to people struggling to get by. I can't think of a more worthy endeavour in life than to help people to learn to live within their means. So it is sad to read that Froogs was bullied so badly that she was forced to shut down. It is the bully that needs shutting down not a woman who worked tirelessly to help so many.

I miss her too! I thought that was the case. Even her Instagram has gone. Sad

RIP Frugal Queen

I just found this thread through Google while looking for her blog. I'm really disappointed. Fair enough if she didn't want to continue with it anymore, but there was a really good recipe archive on there as well as loads of useful tips etc from old posts. I hope she is ok.

Oh that’s sad, I used to enjoy her no nonsense recipes and tips a couple of years ago.

I've enjoyed reading Froogs blog for years. This happened once before and she closed down the blog for awhile. I hope she rethinks and is aware of all the people out there that she is helping and will be back soon.

Sorry to hear that, she had a core of loyal readers. She had hassle before from trolls but that was years ago at the height of her paying down her debt etc. Read her for years before I stopped reading her regularly. Her advice was undoubtably helpful to many but I found her blog very repetitive. The dear reader stuff grated and I did at times find her patronizing and a little competitive. Other than her debt advice, other blogs were better at giving advice for day to day living with a young family. And some shit went down between IRL friend and fellow blogger Frugal Mummy a while back.

I miss her blog too. There was such a wealth of information on there, her recipe archive alone was outstanding and I often used it. It didn’t bother me at all if some posts were repetitive as I still found it useful to be reminded of certain themes or have them expressed slightly differently.

I really hope she returns soon, she’s done so much to help people living on the breadline with her free cookery classes in the local area etc. Ok, so she can be a bit hotheaded at times but no one is perfect and her good points more than outweighed the bad.

Btw, I’m honestly not FQ! Just a long time reader of her blog.

It must be hard work keeping people interested and coming back for more. I tip my hat to her sterling efforts. I think when people hit bottom they actually need someone to tell them straight and to the point how to get out of the mess. FQ did this brilliantly. I've never been in debt up to my neck but looked in on her posts regularly because what she had to say kept me focussed. I loved her recipes and it was wanting her falafel recipe that I realised she had closed the blog down. It was her writings too that made me realise that I don't have to do the full Xmas thing and run myself ragged every year. So I am missing her wisdom and commonsense even though she could at times be a little too full on. Anyhow, I hope she comes back stronger than ever. I do sympathise with not wanting to deal with trolls. Bullies are nasty people and don't care how they attack another person. Maybe she could set up so that her blog was only available to subscribers to weed out the bullies.

Sadly I seem to have missed Frugal Queen's blog. It sounds great. Anyone know of any good alternatives?

CheryJane · 03/01/2018 18:49

For alternative there is Mean Queen Ilona Richardson's blog Life After Money. Ilona has that same no nonsense approach but her focus is different.

Thanks, CheryJane, will have a look.
