does anyone use a tin of bake beans by rinsing off the tomato sauce, as in this recipe?

any good?

Should work fine and worth a try if cheaper than other beans. Soaking dried beans might be cheaper.

No, but I have a meal I put them in. I fry a little onion and pepper, no more than a third of each, add a can of value baked beans, tomato, sweetcorn and some chilli flakes and warm through, serve with rice. If I haven't got one of the veggies, I just omit it/them. This is enough for two and probably costs about 85p with value rice.

It just never occurred to me. Worth a try though.

I make a veggie sausage casserole with baked beans (no rinsing) I brown the sausages in a little oil then in a large deep pan I fry an onion then add any veg I want, fresh or frozen (sweetcorn is good), a tin of baked beans and a tin of chopped tomatoes and a stock cube. I let it simmer for about 20 mins to cook the veg then add the sausage cut into chunks. Give it another 10 mins and job done and it's delicious.

that does sound nice spababe
DH put me off sausage casseroles by over cooking til the skins fell off but this doesn't sound like they are over cooked.

I make a sausage casserole similar to spa, I use pork sausages but take off the skin and make sausage meat balls.

I fry a diced onion, diced carrot, red pepper, garlic, then add the sausage meat balls, add a tin of Heinz five beans, tin of chopped toms, chilli powder, parprika, large handful of red lentils, peas and sweetcorn. It serves 4 and only needs around 4 sausages.

I grew up with that sausage casserole too! Our version was onion, carrot, pepper with sausages, tin baked beans, tin tomatoes and a good shake of hot chilli powder. Fab. And just as good without the sausages now I no longer eat meat.

I made this yesterday. Didn't look very pretty but tasted lovely.

The agirlcalledjack recipe is gorgeous, we normally have it in a wrap, burrito style. I have rinsed off baked beans in the past, tasted fine :)
