How much is your heating on at the moment?

Just wondering how much others have their heating on at the moment. I know we are all different, but really trying to get the right balance between being warm(ish) and cutting back. Ours is coming on as DH gets up 6.15am and goes off at 7.30am (used to be 8am but as I say am trying to be good). Is set to come on for an hour 3.30-4.30, but last two evenings it's gone back on, so am thinking might try 3.30-5.30 as I think boiler uses more when first starts up as running on max capacity. It's 16.8c in lounge at the moment and obviously we'll get colder weather sometime.

All day at the moment.

If i am in the house during the day and not chasing around, then I switch it on.

It goes off at about 10.00pm - then we go to bed.

Just put it properly on last night (as in on timer for a regular set period) as the boys bedrooms have been dropping to 14° overnight the last few days. Its currently set for 3-4am to combat that and then 5.45-8am. We're leaving the evenings for the moment, just flicking the switch here and there for the odd half an hour.

We have the woodburning stove ready to go but haven't actually needed a fire yet this autumn. Maybe tonight though. It was cold first thing this morning on the school run.

I've just put it on actually as DS2 is napping upstairs. When he wakes I will turn it off again and go out for the afternoon.

6:30-7:30 am and 5-7 pm on the timer, but I popped it back on for an hour later in the evening as it was chilly. We live in a reasonbly new house, older ones take more heating sadly.

Mine is on 6:30 - 7:30am - because DP is getting ready for work, 1 - 2pm because the house gets chilly then, and then 6 - 9pm.

I'm home all the time because I'm too ill to work at the moment, and the cold really triggers my disability. We're in credit with the heating at the moment, but not by much, and as I've got little income at the moment I worry about that.

I'm wrapped up under a blanket at the moment.

Mine is on all day as I can't stand being cold (here all the time mostly). I keep it on low but level so that it isn't freezing and then you are not really heating efficiently if you have to turn it right up because your house is freezing.

Half an hour in the morning and then I get up and put the wood burner on.
Half an hour before kids baths.
Then an oil heater in their room to keep them warm at night.
It's oil central heating so I can't afford to have it on more than that!

Mine isn't on yet it's not that cold

I turned it on last night for an hour (first time ON, though I checked it worked last week)

It was hot after an hour in the house.

It's currently 18 degrees in my office with no heating.

I think it depends how cold your house is in its natural state and how often people are in the house. Mine is on a thermostat of 16 degrees during the day which sometimes means it's on and sometimes off.

It was 0 degrees here outside this morning which I think is pretty cold tbh

If my house were 18 degrees with no heating on then the thermostat wouldn't have kicked in. But colder than 16 degrees during the day time is a bit chilly for me. Like it colder at night.

Us to Shinyshoes, it just doesn't feel that cold. Even though I work from home, I just chuck on a few more layers. Sometimes sit in bed with my laptop!

The bedrooms are cold, but we pile on blankets. Wear slippers and have a blanket for the sofa.

Hardcore!

It was well below freezing last night, everything carpeted in frost this morning - that's cold in my book Grin!

06:30 - 07:30 and 9pm - 11pm. We do have a log burner which we light in the evenings and at the weekends though (occasionally during the day as I work from home).

No on the timer yet.
30 mins this morning.
An hour last night.

Similar the day before.

We are out all day.

An hour in the morning an hour at night.

I can't afford more than that so we have blankets over us. We're out most of the day during the week so it isn't too bad and to be honest we like snuggling under blankets.

about an hour every 2 days (on manual not timed). The baby's room has a greenhouse heater on a thermostat though.

Not at all. The flat below us seems to have theirs on full. It is like living in a sauna - we keep opening windows to cool down!

I put it on for the first time yesterday, to check it was working ok. It was fine, so I put it on to come on at 6, in time to warm up before getting home last night and it went off at 11. Not sure when it was on & off during that time as I set the thermostat to 20/22. Which seems high, but certainly doesn't feel that warm?!

I thought about putting it on earlier, but I was hoping to go out and meet a friend for coffee/lunch (so it seemed a waste to heat it up to go out!) but I have to wait for a delivery first. It's chilly in here and my feet are cold, but I could put socks on if I could be bothered to move Grin

I do 'think' about it and use the timer as I don't like to 'waste it' but I am lucky that I can basically have it on when I want it on really. I feel very sorry for people who are having to eek it out and really worry about it, especially if they are ill or have babies/elderly people. It's fine to say put on another layer etc, but you get fed up of that (I have been there, done that!).

Just had a new boiler which is thermostatically controlled (if we leave the boiler on constant). The thermostat is in the hall which rarely gets warmer than 18, so we set it to 17. By the time the hall has reached and maintained 17 for a while, the other rooms are around 22, so certainly warm enough to sit around without several layers. Most of the time the radiators in the bedrooms are turned down (ours is constantly off)Overnight we change the thermostat setting to 14 so that it doesn't kick in and wake us up. Will be lowering that to 10 when it starts to get cold outside.

I turn it back up to 17 when I get up at 7 and then turn it back down at 7.45. I'm at home all day and so far haven't felt cold at all, but my office is on a separate thermostat to the rest of the house so I may, in the depths of winter, turn that up a bit.

The kids don't feel the cold anyway, neither do I or my DP and whenever we've stayed somewhere that keeps the bedrooms warm we've been unable to sleep. We always have the bedroom window open slightly even in winter. We have the highest tog quilts and when it does get cold the kids will be in fleecy pyjamas or onesies.

I have to say though that all of us are healthy and active so we don't get affected by the lower temperatures. I sympathise with those of you who are unwell and need the house a bit warmer.

We hadn't filled the tank until last week, so have had no heating since March. And since it was filled on friday we have had it on twice for around an hour each time.

We don't even have a super warm house, its quite draughty. I think we are just used to lower temps and I usually sit under a blanket. DCs are never cold either.

Hoping to make this top up last until at least end of Feb.

Me too. Must be so difficult to afford to heat the house to higher temps constantly. I know we definitely couldn't. I have gone through a couple of very bad winters when DD1 was young without heating, just elec heaters, and it was miserable. Even though we were warm with extra layers, it still felt like a constant battle.
