John Lewis loyalty carry - free hot drink & cake monthly

I'm probably very late to the party with this have have only just discovered it. John Lewis have a loyalty card, not linked to anything financial like a CC or an account. Each month you get a voucher for a free hot drink and a piece of cake (probably equivalent of about a fiver).

Similarly Ikea family card gives you free tea/coffee Monday - Friday.

I love mine but do always end up looking at the very expensive wool afterwards, which I suspect is their devious plan.

I discovered this recently and had my free coffee and cake yesterday, There was a good choice of cake and I chose a big creamy thing, yum!

I also have the free waitrose coffee almost daily and have free coffee with my M & S card

I am awash with coffee Grin

Can you tell me about the M&S free coffee. Or is it the one that you save stamps for ?

Report
LightastheBreeze · 09/02/2014 08:57

The M&S free coffee is on their credit card but you have to pay £15 a month and you get vouchers and points and holiday insurance (which we do use), so not really free.

I am going to cancel it sometime but at the moment I have got a 0% balance transfer on it so have to wait until that ends.

Oh, don't talk to me about the Waitrose offer. It's so good on paper but where are you supposed to go with the scalding hot coffee? Have you tried carrying a basket in one hand and coffee in the other? There's always a load of pushing and shoving around the machine as well. I think it's bloody dangerous.

Ah will look into that. £15 a month is about what I spend on coffee in M&S anyway and I need to renew travel ins soon .

The MyWaitrose card also generates a lot of 10% off deals around the shop, a good number of which are on stuff one actually wants.

With the loyalty card, their own cream crackers become cheaper than Aldi's, Lidl or Tesco, for instance.

I am not sure given the current health crisis caused by sugar and cakes giving a free cake is a great idea.

I have signed up for the Waitrose card twice now yet not received it. I think it's a cunning plan!

Oh I just use the flimsy one they gave at the desk. They never did send me the real one.

Our waitrose has the coffee machine behind the deli counter. I get my free coffee last thing, wedge it into the corner of the trolley and drink it in the car. Between that and the random 10% off things, I think mywaitrose is a very fair swap for whatever information they get from my shopping patterns.

Do you think JL would deliver my free cake to waitrose along with everything I buy from them, given that the nearest actual branch is over an hour away Smile?

I'm getting quite excited that a John lewis is opening in York in April :) looking forward to getting free cake every month :) at the moment the nearest one is probably Sheffield. Plus I'll be able to order from johnlewis.com and pick it up there.

I get my free hot drink at the end of the shop too, carefully carry it to the car & pop itin the cup holder whilst putting bags in boot. I find it's just the right temperature when I've finished unpacking (5min drive home) so it's perfect - I get order about 3x a week.

But cake? That's never been offered? We don't have a cafe, is it a cafe thing?

stealthsquiggle · 09/02/2014 19:57

Chewbacca I think the cake is a John Lewis thing, as distinct from daily free coffee from waitrose.

The John Lewis one is different from the MyWaitrose one - you just get tea or coffee in Waitrose and it's every day but the John Lewis one also has cake and is once a month. Not sure whether you can have hot chocolate at john lewis - does anyone know?

Yes to hot chocolate, well the Leicester one let me have it anyway. Think it says hot drink and cake doesn't it? Worth asking. They also have me an espresso cups worth of hot choc for 3 yo DD free of charge, sweet!
