I don't pay with bit of paper and pen, pay with phone cashless so want to be able to use one system for all. Not have to FAFF about with phone and then get out paper and pen each time I make a purchase

I use Good budget android app which used to be known as EEBA. It lets you allocate a budget on a monthly or weekly basis, and you can deduct amounts as you go along. If you buy the premium version, you can enter standing order and direct debits so they will automatically reduce your balance so you don't forget them.

YNAB is the best budgeting software I've ever used, and I've tried a few. There's a free month's trial, so you can have a play with it before committing to buy. I saved the fee within a month easily, so it pays for itself. DH and I can both input transactions from our mobiles and check the budget while out of the house. It's flexible and easy to use.
