have just been to costco, and have brought a selection of stuff that worked out cheaper per packet, than asda basic range.
we hope that because we have brought in bulk , we dont over use the stuff and so not save any money.

if you go to costco what do you buy that saves you the most?

Cereal, peanut/almond butter, frozen fruit (for smoothies etc.), dry pasta, rice, canned tomatoes, crackers, bread, meat (repackage and freeze), sliced lunch meat (freeze) cheese, yogurts, hummus, juice boxes, eggs, frozen veg, almond milk, quinoa. We bought fresh produce there for a while but found it was a bit hit and miss, quality wise and we wanted more variety (we love broccoli but no one wants to eat it 7 days/week) and that we were wasting too much so now I buy produce at the regular grocery store.
Also things like toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, soap, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent.
Avoid the junky snack foods as if you've got giant boxes of those kids (and adults!) can tend to get a little carried away. It's great for things like little cheese packets and individual containers of apple sauce that can go in lunchboxes.
It's also easy to forget what you've bought/what's running low so I keep a master list of Costco items and check what's needed before I go.

We go to Macro instead of Costco, but all similar I expect...

Cat food (dry & tins)
Laundry detergent
Fresh ground coffee
Bin bags / bin liners
Catering size packets of aluminium foil and clingfilm.

I'd consider buying anything I think we'd use large amounts of. I'm not so sure things like branded nappies and wipes work out much cheaper than supermarket own brands, so I don't bother with those. It is easy to waste money buying in bulk and then throwing excess away, so I tend to avoid perishables. Storage is also a problem for us so it's tricky to buy large amounts even if it does save loads of money.

Cereal, tea bags, tissues, laundry detergent, baguettes/ciabatta to freeze, cheese, tinned tomatoes, salmon to portion out and freeze, also meat eg lamb steaks, braising steak.

Some of the larger frozen items can also be good value eg apple flans and the Costco cooked chickens are wonderful!
