Writing my life

I can hardly believe it's been 364 days since I started making notes and writing paragraphs about my life. Dh has been on at me for years to write it and so one day I just started. I've sat down today to expand on it and the bit I have rewritten is rubbish. It's worse than what I wrote originally which tbh was perfectly fine. I think I was distracted by the recommendation that I draw the reader in but tbh this book is being written for me and won't be published for public, family etc.

I'm a bit down today with no motivation for anything so thought I could write myself out of my mood.

I know to not over think things, and once I get into it I can write some really good stuff, but I could do with some advice, help, support, a friend. I don't know. I have brain fog.

Don't write for readers, a lot of published authors will tell you they wrote for themselves, if you write something and connect to it, others like you will.

No matter what someone will disagree with your book, tell you to change the story line etc, but for every time you change your book to please someone, you are displeasing those who are like you and would enjoy reading it.

Thank you AuthorElsieThomas, that is great advice and I will remember it. I don't intend for anyone to read my book, I'm not even sure I'll let Dh read it.

I doubt your writing is rubbish. I'm in a few courses that require lots of creative exercises. People will often preface sharing their writing saying it "isn't that good" but it turns out great. We're our own worst critics.

there's a great self help book for creatives called "the war of art" all about the hurdles the creative commonly faces when applying themselves their craft, and how to overcome them...
It's by Steven Pressfield, highly recommended :)

Thank you very much. This had fallen off my TIO and I had not had any more posts after I had last checked. I will take a look at the book and I've also been given money with a request from the giver I subscribe to a writers magazine. Could anyone recommend one please ?

Part of writing is finding a way to power through the days when the words won't come and everything you've done seems awful. It will pass. Just knuckle down and keep writing.

Than you. I'm struggling with tiredness and lacking in motivation to do anything plus the reality of knowing that if I write certain stuff down then they really did happen Sad.
