Anyone writing a novel this November?
I've signed up for my first try!
I'm doing some planning and outlining at the moment and looking forward to starting.

If I can finish my current book (last year's NaNoWriMo) and get it subbed before the end of the month, I'll do it. Can't think of a better cure for submission stress than writing the next one at a breakneck pace.
Need to pull my finger out though!

I'd like to do this! I started last November but fizzled out and am still faffing about with the same idea.

I have 10 day old new daughter though, so might be setting myself up for a fall. Having said that watching TV whilst breastfeeding is losing its appeal, so was wondering about writing during the hours she is feeding. Would need to be longhand though, which is frustrating.

I've done this twice, so will give it a go again. It's certainly a good 'getting words down on paper' exercise.

I've done this for the last few years - never 'won', but I still find it a good exercise in getting words down. Not sure what I'll write this year, and given my rota I doubt I'll get anywhere close to 50K, but I'll give it a go anyway!

What's everyone planning on writing this year?

Report
Dysgu · 05/10/2013 23:10

Have just signed up - have done this before but never 'won'. This year I am on maternity leave so hoping that I will have more time. Now I just have to decide what to write...

Glad there are a few of us planning to do this.

I'm re-starting a novel I've been kicking around for about 10 years Blush. Not using any old words though and doing more planning this time. It is sort of sci fi but not in a conventional sense. Rest of October am planning while breastfeeding - that's the hope anyway. I feel like if I watch any more trashy TV my brain will never recover Smile

What about everyone else?

I've never written before so i'm definitely not expecting a masterpiece!
DH got me a desk last week so i've set up by writing space and done a rough outline! I'm thinking about getting the trial scrivener.
I am writing a fantasy as that is all i read and i love it.
My Nano name is also SugarMeFingers if anyone wants to add me as their buddy. It'd be cool to see how everyone's getting on.
Add your Nano name if you want people to add you too.

I've resigned up - username Rollermum6. SugarmeFingers I couldn't see how to find buddies - having a dim moment!

I watched Katytastic's video on planning around three acts. I am not sure how much structured planning there will be - my plan is mostly linear and what happens. There isn't the pattern of challenges she talks about but potentially there could be.

First timer with NaNo. I've written short stories, lots of attempts at novels but never managed to finish because not organised enough and get bogged down. Am hoping this time will do it. Just bought Scrivener, I love it, have followed Katytastic's YouTube video and set it up for 3 acts with 9 chapters in each, having fun plotting and planning so hoping to be ready to go by 1 Nov.

Hey Ender - didn't realise scrivener could be used in that way. Be interesting to hear how you get on with it.

SugarmeFingers I figured out how to add you now!

Yay! I'm planning on getting the nano free trial of scrivener when it comes out. Nano participants get a 20% discount and winners get 50%.

I'll be doing it. I've done it most of the last... um... eight years? Nine years? I forget. Grin

I've just signed up Grin

I've got loads of novel/short story ideas that I've had kicking around for years and keep procrastinating instead of actually doing anything with them. Hoping this might be the incentive I need to finally get at least something written!!

LOL, I love that you get an extra discount on Scrivener if you win!
I have Scrivener and I love it so much I want to snog it.
It's not just because it makes composition and redrafting so easy - it's the fact that it autosaves the project as a whole so when your computer crashes you don't find there's a document you'd forgotten about with vital notes on that you'd forgotten to back up.

I'm in. won a couple of years ago but still haven't finished what I wrote then. oops.

That was a YA novel. trying my hand at an adult novel this year - scary!

I haven't even picked a genre yet, let alone a plot. Last year I did urban fantasy and had to live with the ridicule of my best friend who insisted I was rewriting Twilight. Hmph. Told the entire pub he did. I'm still living it down!

I've been wondering if it'd be madness to try while on maternity leave with a 6 month old, but seems like I'd be in good company! I tried and failed two years ago, but this time I actually have an idea I'd like to try to work on, rather than just a vague notion that I'd like to write something... I'm wondering if it's feasible to do some of the planning on my phone while breast feeding, or if my thumb will drop off...

Definitely worth a try. It depends on the baby really.
I have written during maternity leaves but my first dc would never have allowed it.
