Why is this agent taking so long?

I sent my manuscript to an agent in November. I contacted them via email two weeks ago as more than six weeks had passed and they state on their website to contact them in these circumstances.

I got a lovely polite reply. They asked for more details so they could locate my submission. As I said, this was two weeks ago and I have had no confirmation that they have found it or read it.

I know they will be busy but why haven't they confirmed they have it at least? Does this mean they are considering it, or is this wishful thinking?

I should think there are 3 possibilities:

  1. They are thinking about it
  2. They've lost it
  3. They've forgotten

They might well be thinking about it, but personally I'd be inclined not to devote too much energy to wondering about one single agent and definitely wouldn't hang on for their response before sending it elsewhere. Have you sent it to any more?

Yes it's also with another agent who have had my submission for almost two months.

I have had a few rejections but they sent my submission back much quicker.

It's frustrating!

Can you send it out to any more?

Yeah, I'd keep sending it out and try to forget this agent.

They might be considering it, but they may also just not be interested, or not have found it. If they want you to resend it, they'll ask, so for now just focus on sending it to more agents.

Good luck with it!

Unless it is the sort of work that only a few agents deal with, I'd send out subs in batches of ten. Then for every rejection, send off another. Aim to have ten bubbling at any time Grin

Are you sending email submissions, OP? If so, I'd just re-send it.

I'm waiting for replies, too. It's a horrible time, isn't it?

I emailed the other agent. They confirmed they have my manuscript and it is still under consideration.

What does that mean though, that they are actually considering it? Argh wish I could just know that my writing isn't complete rubbish at least.

Wordfactory I aim to always have two out at a time, then when one rejects I send another out. Ten! Need to get my skates on.

I fear never being published, writing is my passion. Yes it's horrible waiting.
