To ask for help in getting RTÈ in England?

I would be very grateful for any help with this - have posted in Craicnet but also AIBU for more traffic. My mother is currently in a hospice in England. I would like her to be able to listen to RTÈ (see my user name which refers to her love of The Lovely Joe Smile)

My (admittedly old school) first idea of just tuning in a LW radio to 252 doesn't work there. They have a wifi we can connect to but my mind seems so blank at the moment. Ideally I would like an old fashioned radio as it would be less confusing to my mother and obviously myself but it doesn't seem possible to get RTÈ on DAB radio?

Is the best idea to get a smart speaker like Alexa, connect to hospice wifi and set it up, download the Irish radio app and ask it to play RTÈ? The nurses would have to ask it to play and ask it to stop for her, which I know would confuse my mum a bit but I can't see another way.

I could get an iPhone and install the app and leave it there if the nurses could turn it off and on but this seems like making more work for them (and I would have to get the phone).

Is there an easy way of sorting this which I am missing? Any help would be very gratefully appreciated. Thank you.

I have the RTE radio app on my iPhone and use it all the time. Love it.
I also have Newstalk and Today FM apps on my phone.

That's tough for you and your Mum. Thanks

An Alexa?

OP get an Alexa and connect it to her phone (and the WiFi). Then download the TuneIn app. Telling Alexa to ‘Play RTÉ Radio 1 on TuneIn’ should then work.

Argh I'm sorry, I replied to my thread in AIBU and forgot to post update here too. I also forgot to say she doesn't have a phone.

I bought an internet radio which worked fine at home but at the hospice the signal wasn't strong enough. I have ordered a replacement mobile for my phone which I will empty of everything except the radio app and the nurses have said they will turn it off and on for her. (A lovely SALT therapist even spent ages with me trying to sort the radio which was very kind).

I am determined to get this sorted so my mum can listen to RTÈ again! Thanks all for help.

Best wishes to your mother, @TheLovelyJoeDuffy. Though I’ll admit that hearing microsecond of him in my hospice would have me banging my head off the wall. My mother, however, has a (local) radio presenter preference which makes Joe D look pretty good...

Just an update (as I hate OPs who ask for help and never come back Wink)

My mother has RTÈ! I actually ended up buying a new iPhone as that was the only thing that could get a signal/connection where she is in the hospice. The app is on there and the nurses have even written in her notes so when they do the first round they turn it on for her Smile (if I start talking about how fabulous the staff are, I'll start crying, so I won't - suffice to say they are amazing.

Thank you all for your help. On top of the nurses being so lovely, the thought of Mners taking the time to suggest help for my mum has warmed my heart.
