Just be aware this thread is on Craicnet - the thread for Irish Mumsnetters- the equivalent of Scotsnet for Scottish Mumsnetters.
Onviously not being UK citizens we don't pay for a tv license in UK so we don't get the BBC iplayer.
I'd love to have access to it and would pay a fee if that were possible.
Anyone else ?

Legal access isn't possible. Illegally you can go via a VPN to pretend you are in the UK.

Britbox doesn't have the latest stuff yet, and is that even available in Ireland? Netflix and Prime have a lot of BBC programmes on them.

Don't you get BBC channels over the air though? You certainly can via satellite (freeview / Sky) due to teh stellite footprint. So you could use a PVR recorder where you record stuff off-air to watch in your own time.
iPlayer rarely has stuff that isn't broadcast so that should get you the shows you want via this route.

I have Hola on my laptop which seems to allow me access, but only sometimes usually when I don't care, never when there is something I really want to watch

It's worth a try and is free.

For some reason I can access all the podcasts on BBC sounds on my laptop, but not on my phone so I don't know whether that's to do with Hola.

Rollercoaster, I always discover BBC series just too late, so I have recorded Nest, and My Girl, and a few others, but missed the first episode of each which is infuriating.

It's a wonder they dont allow access to Britbox in
Ireland.
Theres a 30 day free trial at the moment but they request a debit card number but it has to be a UK card.
I would never be accused of having my finger on the pulse so it's only afterwards I come across the good stuff.

My plan was to do the 30 day trial and then pay, its comparable to Netflix.
Maybe everyone except me knows how to work vpn's.

I do record BBC1/ 2 but sometimes I miss things that i hear are great and would love to watch but are gone off normal telly.
I am a complete techno thicko so getting a vpn to work - no chance.

Brit expat long term resident in Ireland here, and I was desperate for iPlayer content

I now use Express VPN, and it works perfectly. You can definitely get this to work! If I can anyone can.

Hola used to work but is now inconsistent. Nord VPN I couldn't get to work at all, but Express VPN does the job very well. Worth the money.

Agreeing with Horseoutside here-ExpressVPN is super simple to use and relatively cheap. I highly recommend.

I will investigate Express VPN.
It would be so much easier to pay for the BBC player. It would make the BBC money too - aren't they always whinging they don't have enough.

Express VPN give a free monthly trial so we've used my email address, my husbands and some other ones to get a few months free access.
