Is there any hope they'll reopen after the Easter break?

No, I don't think so.

God no no hope. I reckon the kids will be off until September, certainly secondary who finish in May anyway but primary wouldn't surprise me either

I think this is a question for the government

Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

My kids are young & they want to know when they'll see their friends. Deep down I know it probably will be September...

They won't reopen after Easter. I also think it'll be September.

Put the teachers on 80% wages then they will reopen sharpish.

@Yellowshirt that's bullshit.

It's not up to the teachers! This is a government decision. Schools are very unlikely to be open until after summer.

@fedup21 . I'm not sure what that face means

I’m in Scotland, I’d guess mid Aug at the earliest and am quite prepared for it to be months beyond that.

@yellowshirt :It's not up to the teachers , it's the governments decision guided by their public health advisers.
No, I can't see the schools opening before June, and I think that's being optimistic.

Report
SparkyBlue · 29/03/2020 10:24

Being optimistic they might bring them back the last two weeks in June or something along those lines to just try and regroup before the summer holidays but I am probably clutching at straws 😀😀😀. DS is due to start junior infants in September and he has had lots of issues with settling in Montessori so I'd hate to think he won't get to see his classroom and meet his teacher in June before school starts back in September.

@Yellowshirt Do you know how many of us are desperate to be back at work? We didn’t WANT schools to close, they NEEDED to. And now we’re chasing our tails trying to teach remotely around stampeding toddlers, working overnight to catch up.

Superlooper · 30/03/2020 00:42

@Yellowshirt Teachers are still getting paid in full in ROI

Pretty sure they would rather be back in the classroom without CV19

SionnachRua · 30/03/2020 17:39

Planning for remote teaching takes a lot longer than planning for face to face teaching. I'd much rather be back in the classroom, though the muppets who seem to think teachers chose to close the schools find that hard to believe.

I wish, wish, wish we were back in school. I teach sixth class and am so sorry about all the things they’ve missed so far/are going to miss out on before the end of the school year. I went into school to collect a few things today (allowed by DES) and the school had such a sad and deserted air about it. It made me feel really lonely.

We have been told they don't plan of opening till August so mid August at the earliest .

Any opinions on RTE school? My young children loved it!

I’m a teacher and I think it will be sept

And for the very few on here that are critical of teachers for some reason, some of us are still in school with no protective equipment, and two me of us aren’t but wish we could be because we live what we do, want our pupils to do well and learn and miss them and our work.

Not going to bother answering some people individually as it will just annoy me - but we didn’t make the decision to close schools, the government did.

@Peppafrig I doubt if they will go back in August. Do you think they will cut the holiday short ?
