Skerries?

Hi all,
We have just moved to Ireland with DH's work and are currently renting in Malahide. We are considering a move to Skerries and wondered what people thought about it as a place to live? We don't know the area very well so any advice or insights would be really useful.
Any info also specifically about:

  • the play facilities (are there things for a 2 year old plus to do?)
  • community groups - would it be easy for a SAHM with a newborn and a toddler to make friends?
  • creches and playgroups?

Thanks very much for any info.
    Kate

My friend has lived in Skerries for over 20 years so I've been visiting her all that time. She loves Skerries - a real community feel and even though it has expanded, it still feels 'country.'
Lovely coffee shops, good pubs and restaurants etc. I live near the city centre but if I was to move anywhere, it would be there.

Hi OP
I live in Skerries and it's fab for kids. My child long past baby stage but there is definitely still weekly playgroups going on.

There is a playground by the harbour and then down by the mills is a duck pond which my child always loved to go to to feed them.
Just on the outskirts of the town is Ardgillan Castle and park, with a really big playground and beautiful wood walks.

There's child friendly cafés, and loads of nice restaurants.
Crèche places can be limited so that would be one to check out.
Popcorn childcare and Little Rugrats are two I know of.

I'm obviously biased! But I really think it's a fab place to live Smile

Best of luck!

Ahhh so many happy memories of days spent with my babies in that little playground overlooking the sea and exploring up at Ardgillan. Beautiful Skerries, I miss you.
