DESPERATE for any support. Getting abortion pills online?

I'm petrified just writing this but I'm at a complete loss as there is no support for me. Maybe I'm not even posting this in the right place.

I found out I'm pregnant yesterday and i straight away knew what I wanted to do. My partner feels the same. I rang every single dr/GP/clinic in my area yesterday and got turned away from all of them. They all told me abortion services aren't available in my county yet but to call my options. My options gave me 2 numbers of the nearest clinics to me (at least 1 hour 15 mins away). I called both and they both require payment and the worst part...the nearest appointment would be the end of next week Sad

I have 3 kids already and I obviously would travel if I had to and pay the money but to have to but for the initial appointment to be the end of next week seems too long. I would have to wait 3 days after this (cooling off period) to return and receive the first tablet, return the next day and then maybe a week later. The women on the phone also said as they are such a busy clinic I might not get an appointment after the 3 days, I'd have to talk about it with the dr.

I'm absolutely deviated and nobody can seem to help me. I decided to order pills online last night. It's from a reputable site, womenhelp. Has anyone had any experience at all of waiting for abortion pill and how long they take to arrive? My calculations say I should have them by next Thursday if everything goes to plan.

I would appreciate any bit of advice. Thank you

Abortions are available but you have to go through a specific process.

The information is available on the HSE website. Only specific doctors/hospitals are doing them but if you go through the steps, it is possible and it is free of charge.

This is taken from the HSE website:
When an abortion can be carried out
You can have an abortion if your pregnancy is no more than 12 weeks.
12 weeks of pregnancy means 84 days since the first day of your last period.
After 12 weeks, you can only have an abortion in certain circumstances.
The earlier an abortion is carried out, the simpler and safer it will be.
Getting support early on will also give you more time to make a decision if you're unsure whether you want to have an abortion or not.
You can get free and confidential advice on all your options from My Options, a new HSE support service.
You can call My Options on freephone 1800 828 010 (from outside of Republic of Ireland call +353 1 687 7044)

Unfortunately when I called myoptions the women told me the nearest to me is a different county and a good distance away. And also that I'd have to pay (the clinic have stated this to my options but she says she doesn't know if it's some sort of deposit type thing or not). She told me there's no gps on the list for anywhere in my county as of yet but to call around to clinics and gps. I'm nearly sure I've called every clinic in my county and my GP has told me they can help. There's simply nowhere near me that has the services as of yet. I'm absolutely desperate and buying the pills online seems like a faster and easier option. By the time I wait for the appointment in the other county I'll be another week gone and that's only the initial consultation.

The safer option would be to travel to the nearest clinic. Next week's appointment will be no later than the pills will arrive. You would need medical supervision. It seems odd that they would charge you. How much did they ask for?

Unless they are counterfeit, or out of date, which online drugs often are. Which could either severely harm or injure you, or severely injure but not kill the baby, and leave you in a worse situation.

I'm sorry that it's so inconvenient for you; honestly; but you need to do this properly. There's too much at stake.

Like other posters have said, it makes more sense to go to a clinic. Even if you have to travel a bit further than the nearest clinics it is still worthwhile. Ring around clinics that are a bit further and see if you can get an earlier appointment.

Services are still in the early stages but now that we have those services my advice would be to use them.

That's not that far to travel?

Thanks for everyone's advice. I feel so panicked and I've never been in this situation before, anybody I've reached out to help me has basically said they're at a loss as the services isn't up and running here yet.

It's an hour and 15 at least (if I was traveling in the morning or evening this would be doubled). I also have to bring my 2 children as I have no child minding options.

The online service has got back to me and told me I should have my package in 2-5 business days. The clinic are only calling me in for a chat at the end of next week so I presume it'd be the following week before I could get things going. I don't mind paying the €100 to the clinics. I just don't want to travel to a city I've never really been to with my 2 children.

Just be careful, OP. I'm aware of some transactions of pills made online. Some are a lot weaker than they should be. Some do nothing. If you make yourself sick, it's going to be much more inconvenient to be in hospital.

If you are going to take them, make sure you tell a friend who can spot you. But I'd advise not to.

What about your partner? Why can't he look after your children?

Report
3timeslucky · 07/03/2019 22:28

This is your partner's responsibility also. He needs to step up and take on looking after the two or three children for as long as it takes you to get to where you need to go. This is the kind of situation when friends will also step in and help if you haven't got other family you can call on.

I don't want to sound unhelpful but there are no Irish cities so challenging that you should be worried. If you're an hour or so from Dublin you'll know Dublin. If it is a smaller city then they're easy to find your way around.

Is the 100 euro to go through ED? Can someone mind your DC? You may not want to go alone.

Your husband must look after your children. I doubt you would be allowed to take them with you anyway, but it would also be very difficult for other women in the same situation as you to have to sit in a waiting room with young children. I hope the clinic does not allow it.
At first I thought your post was saying you need to go to the next country. If you need to drive an hour to the next COUNTY then so what? You’re not travelling a million miles here. You sound desperate for an alternative when the option available is doable and sensible IMO
