Any thoughts on the man who would not run for a second term putting himself forward again? I'm annoyed. If he'd been honest first time round I wouldn't be, but he's always set himself as being apart from the craven political class. While I never really believed it, I'm disappointed to have it proven.

Have you never changed your mind about something you said 7 years ago?

I think he’s been an outstanding president and I’m delighted he’s running again. I don’t think it’s about being politically craven, I think he is doing an exceptional job of public service.

I've changed my mind many times in 7 years but I don't know why he couldn't have been honest in the first place that he would be open to it. Not that he would or wouldn't stand but that he'd decide at the time, that time being now.

Well it's yet another example of not being a man of his word, he's a hypocrite - a real champagne socialist. I don't like him and I do not think he's a patch on Mary McAleese.

I cannot see anyone beating him but at least Miriam's ruled herself out of it but more than likely she knows he'll get elected again.

honeyrider I absolutely agree with you re '...champagne socialist'
He and the wife are revelling in the 'adoration'.
Why didn't he do more for the ordinary people during the recession ?
Bang a few heads together ?
He's on a cushy number and he has the Dail and Ministerial pensions.
Personally I didn't vote for him and wouldn't again.
Pompous ............
We don't want a coronation ( nor an election to be honest).

His fawning tribute in praise of Castro when he died was disgraceful.

I am, of course, delighted to be seeking a second term.

thank you. Feel free to pop around to the Áras any time. Sabina makes deadly scones.

Miggeldy, how about you swap with Sabina? She's a woman I could get firmly behind if she ran. And I'm sure you could charm a great rise out of a soda loaf.

I could get on board with being a First Gentleman. It would give me more time with the doggies and my poetry.

And I'd much prefer to hang out with Melania anyway rather than Trump should they visit. I've no doubt Sabina would soften his cough with the threat of the wooden spoon if he was up to any shenanigans and meddling in Irish politics.
