Duties and costs of a carer

Looks like we may need to get a carer for my Dad, anyone got any clue about how much they cost? Does the state provide any help with regards the costs ?

Unfortunately, we don't have a family member who can apply to become his carer, so we will need to find someone outside the family.

What kind of hours do they work? will they take him back and forth to his doctors appointment and take him for his groceries. He lives alone, housekeeping is minimal, he is still able to manage his own personal care, but he is not able to take taxis anymore or walk very far, so will need to be accompanied if he has to go anywhere.

Thank you

A very useful first port of call would be family carers Ireland. If you check out their website you'll be able to find their contact info. They also have a helpline where you can get some basic info.

Depends tbh. I was a carer until very recently, we worked with both private & social clients. You would have to get a financial assessment done to determine which route you went down. Our company was £19p/h & we worked 7.30am - 9pm; we didn't provide overnight care. Depending on the care needs - a care assessment would also need doing - you would be pointed in the direction of a service who could cover the needs stated.

Carers do anything from basic personal care, right through to housework & shopping. Just depends what is needed & what the company can cater for x
