Messages seem to be filtering out from schools now.

I've no idea how I'm going to keep myself sane and the two energy balls occupied for the day!

I'm a teacher. Is it very wrong that I'm secretly delighted?

It won't be too bad as long as the electricity stays on!

I hate wind! Always afraid the chimney will come crashing down.

Third level colleges closed too.

As JaneJeffer says it'll be OK as long as we don't get power cuts.

It's eerily calm out there at the moment.

Just being nosey - how are schools alerting you? Via phone or text or...?
Not something I've ever experienced!

It's so strange outside. Really calm, mild and a bit of fog. I'm firmly in the red zone in West Cork. Confused It's really concerning!!

BabyOrSanta DS got a text from his uni. It's also all over the news that school etc will be closed so it's hard to miss.

I've had texts from both schools BabyorSanta. But I also have a WhatApp class parents' group for each child and that went ballistic as soon as the Dept of Education put out the statement, so I would have known anyway.

It seems much more organised than our "listen to the local radio" that happens on snow days here!

One from work now too!

Schools have good texting services here nowadays. I remember the good old days of listening to the radio on snow days and wondering whether to walk the DC's to the bus or not!

Apparently the school texts are completely backed up, ours just came through

Yep.. I am happy :)

But hope everyone is safe. We got a text just before the 9 0' clock news.

Another West Cork Resident here too.
We had a text from primary school telling us about the closure but we'd already decided to hunker down. We've spent all day moving everything loose into the shed, garage and house including putting the chickens inside the Porch. Hoping their coop survives so they can go back outside on Tuesday.
It's always windy here as we're less than a mile from the coast and surrounded by open fields so not much natural shelter. I'm expecting it to be pretty bad but I'm also grateful that it's not the middle of winter.
Roll on Tuesday!

Has the storm hit the south west yet?

Report
FluffyNinja · 16/10/2017 08:33

Yes! It's sounds scary and we're getting battered but the electricity is still on for now.
