Looks like all schools closed tomorrow.

AfterSchoolWorry Sun 15-Oct-17 21:20:30

Met Eireann warning:

MulhuddartDrive Sun 15-Oct-17 21:27:16

Messages seem to be filtering out from schools now.

I've no idea how I'm going to keep myself sane and the two energy balls occupied for the day!

mineallmine Sun 15-Oct-17 21:29:07

I'm a teacher. Is it very wrong that I'm secretly delighted?

JaneJeffer Sun 15-Oct-17 21:39:40

It won't be too bad as long as the electricity stays on!

Want2beme Sun 15-Oct-17 21:41:21

I hate wind! Always afraid the chimney will come crashing down.

DramaAlpaca Sun 15-Oct-17 21:42:36

Third level colleges closed too.

As JaneJeffer says it'll be OK as long as we don't get power cuts.

It's eerily calm out there at the moment.

BabyOrSanta Sun 15-Oct-17 21:43:21

Just being nosey - how are schools alerting you? Via phone or text or...?
Not something I've ever experienced!

Fauxtatoes Sun 15-Oct-17 21:44:09

It's so strange outside. Really calm, mild and a bit of fog. I'm firmly in the red zone in West Cork. confused It's really concerning!!

AfterSchoolWorry Sun 15-Oct-17 21:45:59

mineallmine

I'm pre school, lol šŸ˜†

Hopefully no loss of life or injury though.

DramaAlpaca Sun 15-Oct-17 21:47:11

BabyOrSanta DS got a text from his uni. It's also all over the news that school etc will be closed so it's hard to miss.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar Sun 15-Oct-17 21:47:56

I've had texts from both schools BabyorSanta. But I also have a WhatApp class parents' group for each child and that went ballistic as soon as the Dept of Education put out the statement, so I would have known anyway.

Izzadoraduncancan Sun 15-Oct-17 21:50:31

We've had from playschool to university cancelled in this house... all 6 delighted šŸ˜

BabyOrSanta Sun 15-Oct-17 21:56:01

Thank you for helping my curiosity grin

I hope you are all okay and there's not much damage to your properties etc smile

MulhuddartDrive Sun 15-Oct-17 21:56:27

Baby we haven't actually heard from the school yet but there was a notification on dept education website

AfterSchoolWorry Sun 15-Oct-17 21:58:52

I've had messages from junior school, after school and college so far. Stay safe everyone.

BabyOrSanta Sun 15-Oct-17 21:58:59

It seems much more organised than our "listen to the local radio" that happens on snow days here!

AfterSchoolWorry Sun 15-Oct-17 22:04:03

One from work now too!

OhYouBadBadKitten Sun 15-Oct-17 22:13:39

popping in from the weather section to post a link to our discussion here

JaneJeffer Sun 15-Oct-17 22:17:49

Schools have good texting services here nowadays. I remember the good old days of listening to the radio on snow days and wondering whether to walk the DC's to the bus or not!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar Sun 15-Oct-17 22:22:48

Thanks OYBBK

MulhuddartDrive Sun 15-Oct-17 22:23:22

Apparently the school texts are completely backed up, ours just came through

wobblywonderwoman Sun 15-Oct-17 22:26:48

Yep.. I am happy smile

But hope everyone is safe. We got a text just before the 9 0' clock news.

FluffyNinja Sun 15-Oct-17 22:27:59

Another West Cork Resident here too.
We had a text from primary school telling us about the closure but we'd already decided to hunker down. We've spent all day moving everything loose into the shed, garage and house including putting the chickens inside the Porch. Hoping their coop survives so they can go back outside on Tuesday.
It's always windy here as we're less than a mile from the coast and surrounded by open fields so not much natural shelter. I'm expecting it to be pretty bad but I'm also grateful that it's not the middle of winter.
Roll on Tuesday!

Has the storm hit the south west yet?
