Start using Mumsnet PremiumIrish treats for England
(115 Posts)Hi folks, I'm returning to visit my old work in England and wanted to bring the department some typical Irish treats that can't be got in England but can't think of what to bring. Any suggestions?
Tay to cheese and onion. Jawbox gin
Top hats
They don't have Chikatees there.
Thanks everyone - top hats great suggestion.
I had to go look up chikatees do we get them in NI?
Tayto cheese and onion crisps
Snowballs
Fifteens
Top hats (Any tray bake really as English people don't seem to be as obsessed with them as we are)
Potato bread
Cinnamon sweets
Veda bread
Brown lemonade
Soda bread
Wheaten bread
West coast coolers
Moros. Love them! No, Boosts are not the same!
I always am asked for Sodas , and I bring Barry's tea and chocolate Kimberley.
Kimberleys!!! And the special chocolate covered ones.
Mikado
Barry's tea
Club orange
More kimberleys!!!
Cadbury tiffin and caramello.
Sooo much better than what you can get in England!
I've got tiffin in the fridge. All mine ❤️
Taytos
Fifteens
Wheaten and soda bread
Punjana tea
Veda
Cadbury golden crisp
What on earth are top hats?
I'm still none the wiser as to what top hats actually are, but I think I want them
Hold the phone. Moro's haven't been discontinued and replaced with Boosts? They just don't sell them in England?
I've never made that connection.
And another thing - why can't you get West Coast Cooler over here? They are my go-to wedding drink and I can't get them so I end up drinking way too much prosecco and doing shots with strangers...
But yeah, taytos, kimberly, oatfield sweets...
All of the Irish Cadbury bars.
Club orange and club lemon
Galtee 'cheese'
Nancy, you melt chocolate then pour it into bun cases and pop a marshmallow on it. If you're being extra fancy you put a bit of melted chocolate onto a smarty and stick it on top. That's literally it. I don't understand why this is an Irish thing and not an internationally loved treat.
Veda. Can you ship us a container over?!
nancy my heart is aching a little bit for you not ever having had a top hat.
In N Ireland no child has ever attended a birthday party that doesn't have top hats. It's the law.
Kimberley
Tiffin
Barry's tea
Clonnakilty
We can get Club Orange quite easily in England (assuming you're talking about the chocolate biscuit) but I've never even heard of Club Lemon let alone seen one.
The top hats look good (once I realised you didn't actually mean head wear! 😂).
Also Cadbury Mint Crisp, Tiffin, Caramello. Can't get them in the UK.
