Tayto Park Viking Ride - will I fit?

I'm trying to save myself some embarrassment and save dd some disappointment. We are going to Tayto Park this week with my sister and her kids. Dd (9) is dying to go on the new flume ride, it looks great.

I'd love to go on with her but am worried that we'll wait in the enormous queue and then I won't be able to close the bar over my lap Blush. I'm 5'6", about 270lb (19st) and I am biggest in my stomach / gut area. That said, I sit in booths, fasten airplane seatbelts etc. without any problem, not always comfortably but not too bad either. I'm a jeans size 22 (wearing John Rocha ones now - I know different brand sizes run differently).

Has anyone been on the Viking water ride and can you tell me if the bar is tight against an average sized person (in which case it won't fit on me)? Or was it roomy (in which case I might be snug but ok)? My sister did ring the park but they couldn't tell her much, just said there's no weight limit and it depends on if the bar will close. And that she / I could have a look when we get there before waiting in line.

My sister will take dd on the ride if I can't so she won't miss out on it, but she really would love for me to do it with her (I'd like to, too) so if there's a reasonable chance that I'll fit without a problem, I'd like to try.

To pre-empt anyone thinking they need to tell me, I know my weight is a problem and am gutted that my overwhelming emotion in relation to taking my sweet daughter for a big day out is anxiety and fear of public humiliation, rather than excitement. I am working on it. But for now I just want to know if I'm likely to fit as I am. Thanks.

I don't know the answer as I've never been to Tayto Land. Not useful I know but it's not nice when nobody responds. It's a pity Craicnet hasn't really taken off. Good luck with going and I hope you enjoy the day!

I haven't been on the ride but checked out a couple of YouTube videos and it looks likes there a decent amount of space between the bar and people. Check it out and hopefully you'll be fine.

I'm sure you'll get on grand. Hope you all have a brilliant time!

I've been on last week. I think you should be fine.

Thanks so much for replying! And especially Cows for reviving the unanswered thread Smile.

Bicycle I didnt think of checking YouTube but I have done now and yes, it's reassuring. The Ireland AM clip has the best view on the seats / belts (in case anyone ever googles for the answer to this question and happens on the thread).

Kanye and Lepreporn thanks for the first hand accounts. And thanks all for not taking the piss Flowers.

I am probably pushing my luck now asking anyone to engage any further with this... But for Kanye and Lepreporn and anyone else who's actually been on the ride:

Would you mind describing the restraint to me? On the videos it looks like it's just an adjustable seatbelt, similar to an airplane belt. But on the TP website they refer to "the lap bar" having to close... Is there a restraint in addition to the belt which just doesn't show from the angles I've seen? Does the cushion in front of you lower and click into place or something? Or is it really just a run of the mill seatbelt?

Thanks again Smile

Losing, if you look in this picture, it looks like there's a cushioned lap bar: www.thesun.ie/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2017/06/nintchdbpict000331733696.jpg?strip=all&w=960&quality=100

I can't answer first hand though, as the day we were there the queue was immense and we didn't bother. You'll definitely fit on Cu Chulainn should you be insane enough to want to; I'm 5'8'' and 18.5 stone and was fine on it (when I got on, anyway; I was considerably less fine, both mentally and physically, when I got off).

Thanks Puffin! That's the picture that has me wondering, I can't tell if that padded bar stays where it is or moves down over the lap. I am telling myself that the Viking in the second row looks comfy enough so I might be ok!Grin

I had assumed Cú Cuchlainn was out... Hmmm!

Thanks for taking the time to reply!

We were in Tayto park last week and we're outsidejust before it opened, we went straight for the Viking ride and had very little queue to get on ( even though the website said it didn't open until 12!). Sorry I can't answer the question you actually asked. It this may save you spending too much time in the queue!

Thanks for the tip percy! Can you remember if it's just a seatbelt type lap belt, or if there's a bar restraint as well?

It's an adjustable seatbelt type lap belt!
Also if it's a nice day bring a change of clothes for DCs, mine ended up drenched in one of the water play areas!

Lots of room you'll be fine . Isn't really necessary to wear belt anyway. We were told just to belt in the smallies .

Hi!! This is a far stretch now, but if you see this I was wondering if you went on any of the other rides? I’m panicking as I’ve booked in to head to tayto park but I’m terrified of not fitting on any of the rides….. I’m a size 24 in most jeans, most of my weight is on my belly and back side area. If anyone sees this thank you in advance

Has anyone an update on this? Really want to go myself but also a size 24, and don’t want to be disappointed when I get there

I’m going on next Tuesday July 13th -if it’s not too late would you like me to report back IF there are any weight restrictions?

Daniih15 · 09/07/2021 13:56

Yes please!

I was there recently. I don't remember any weight restrictions, just height restrictions. You could try emailing them if you want to be sure.

TakingTheLowRoad · 14/07/2021 21:09

Ok -so each ride has a height restriction but nowhere did it give weight restrictions. I asked on the Viking Voyage and rollercoasters and they said it depends on whether they feel they can get the belts/bars tightened sufficiently.
On the Viking Voyage it’s a lap belt that can be tightened/loosened as needs be. You do need to be able to move quite briskly as that ride doesn’t come to a stop when you’re getting on or off. The CC rollercoaster is a fixed bar that goes across your lap. If that’s not tightened sufficiently then the ride can’t go.
Sorry I can’t be of more help. There were people of all shapes and sizes there yesterday and I personally didn’t see anyone turned away from any rides.
