They have reviews coming out their ears - the problem is with the implementation of the recommendations within reviews. I am close to a number of Guards and morale is incredibly low.

She needs to go, she's not up to the job and she's part of the problem.

Her husband was given the job of investigating individual Gardai links to journalists.
According to a Mumsnetter on another thread.
You couldn't make it up !!!

That's true about her husband. The gardai don't call the Headquarters in the Phoenix Park the Kremlin for nothing.

Now we just have to wait and hear what other crimes have had the figures massaged as alluded to by Noirin herself in her statement.

I am really sad as I was brought up to respect the guards and have instilled that in my own dc.

Is it true that there was/ is a financial incentive for Supers / Inspectors in an area re drink driving convictions ?
The more convictions the more they earned?

I'm ashamed of The Gardai, they are no better than a third world outfit.
As for The Commissioner, words fail me.I think she is out of her depth, and that's being charitable.

Out of her depth or up to her neck ?

Meant to add I had such high hopes - female Justice minister, female AG and female police commissioner.
Glass ceilings smashed to smithereens.

Who knows? I mean, the only reason she hasn't been asked to step down that I can imagine is that no one else will accept the job.

I think they'll have to bring in someone from 'outside' - a different country. Assistant Commissioners not to be trusted either.
Massaging figures was endemic - a family member is a Guard and he says orders would come from Superintendent to inflate figures from Mandatory Alcohol Testing. It was going on all over the country.
The letters that weren't sent out is an almighty cock up.

If I were at that level in another country I cannot imagine what would persuade me to take that job.

What a nightmare.
