What to do on a rainy Paddys Day?

I have three young kids (under 6) - i don't want to stand around in the rain for the Parade.. There doesn't seem to be anything else on though?

We're in south of country. Considering going to see Parade in Cork but not sure how enjoyable it would be in bad weather?!

Anyone doing anything interesting that isn't weather dependent?

Not much use to you as it couldn't be further away, but a community centre here in Donegal where we are staying for the weekend has an indoor 'parade'. From 12 noon until 2pm they are serving Irish stew, have face painters/arts and crafts for the children, traditional music playing and Irish dancing, we will head off afterwards to a nearby town for the usual outdoor parade at 3pm (weather permitting).

I'll be standing in the rain watching the parade in Donegal with 3 DC. I so wish I could go to the pub.

We might go to the teeny local parade in Donegal too... but it only lasts about 30 mins so if the weather is brutal, we will probably skip it.

We're chancing the local parade if it's less than storm conditions.

Whither the chilly but sunny parades of my youth, that's what I'd like to know.

Ah, the sunny 80s... when your mam would allow that year's first outing of a knee-sock on St Patrick's Day...

When we were very young, it was all so exciting. My dad's aunt used to give all her nieces and nephews a whole pound each on St Patrick's Day. The thrill of a day off school with a pound to spend and no lent made it peerless among high days and holidays.
