Gardaí investigate alleged assault of boy by eight pupils at Dublin boarding school

Gardaí have confirmed that they are investigating an alleged assault at a school in the Lucan area of Dublin.

It is reported that a 13-year-old boy was sexually assaulted with a hockey stick by eight other pupils at King's Hospital school in Palmerstown last Thursday.

The Irish Times also claims a number of students have been suspended from the co-education boarding and day secondary school.

The school confirmed that the alleged incident is being investigated by Tusla, the Child and Family Agency.

It said it will make no further statement, while Tusla has said it does not comment on individual cases.

Gardai are shocked that it took from Thursday to Tuesday before it was reported to them

Horrific to think of what this boy has been through.

Just desperate.
What is our society like now !!!!!
They've done the Stay Safe programme in primary school.
They know what's wrong from right.
No excuses.
I despair.

The principal, school board, any teacher or adult connected to the school that knew about this and didn't report is as they're legally obliged to do should be prosecuted for trying to cover it up. It was only reported after the Irish Times contacted the school for a comment on it. The gardai are now investigating to see if there's a history of this sort of crime in the school.

Any incident can happen at any school. What is shocking here is the reluctance of the school to report it, despite being told by their lawyer they had to. I'd be very concerned if I had a child at the school as it doesn't sound like their safeguarding is good enough.

This school had to pay out a lot of compensation because of previous sex abuse cases.

If this is the same boarding school sexual assault I read about a few days, the boy's parents have made him stay in school. How sad :(
The article I read didn't have the detail about the hockey stick, I dread to imagine how violent that was.

I've read elsewhere that parents of those suspended put pressure on the victim's family to drop it and move on. I get the impression that some think they can buy their way out of trouble.
