M&S bunks - split down to single beds?

Have been looking at the M&S bunk beds. I was sure they used to say you could split them down into 2 single beds but when I rang them they said it's possible but they don't recommend it because it weakens the structure.

Does anyone have the M&S bunks? Do you think it's possible to split them down? I can't think how beds designed to be stacked on top of one another could be weaker when not stacked? But then I'm not a bed engineer .

www.marksandspencer.com/Marks-and-Spencer-Solid-Bunkbed/dp/B000JVDVKG if it's them you can see on the picture that they are two beds stacked. The only weakening of the structure would be removing the rails on the top bunk!

you also wouldn't have the square cappy bits that top off the posts for the bottom bed iykwim.

is it because when they arrive the delivery men will assemble them, but if you split them at a later date they don't trust you to do it right ie it'll invalidate their insurance / guarantee or whatever?

don't know about weakening the structure, but have just separated our m&s bunkbeds - as jenroy says, don't have anything to cap off the bottom bed posts so are left with pegs sticking out. bit of diy required...

We have M&S bunks and they definitely look like 2 beds stacked, don't see any reason why you can't separate them.

Fab, thanks. Bit of DIY is acceptable (well, I accept on DP's behalf).

Some Health and Safety fudging on M&S's part I think.

They appear to be on special too - £299 instead of £399.

Hi Lastyearsmodel
Sorry this is a bit late, but I was wondering the same thing about the M&S bunk beds and could they be used as 2 singles.

Did you buy the bunk bed and does it separate into 2 usable single beds?
