Cots and beds

Struggling to use cot with pregnancy!

Hi everyone, I’ve read that you shouldn’t move your baby to a toddler bed until they’re 2 years old. My boy is 1 year old and I’d like to keep him in his cot until the right time but I’m struggling to put him down due to having to lean over the bars with a pregnant belly! It’s an Ikea one with two height settings but he has to be on the lowest now because he can stand. Any suggestions? I’ve looked at drop side cots but they all seem to only remove with a fair bit of effort to turn it into a toddler bed, whereas I need something that will just come away and fit back easily every time I need to put him down, almost like a horizontal baby gate for a cot! I thought about toddler bed + safety rail but they don’t seem high enough to be safe at his age.

12 months between my youngest two. Kept older one in cot till over two. Put him in standing they he lay down. Picked him up from standing. So not like lying a tiny baby all the way down on to the mattress IYSWIM.
Hope that helps. Smile

My son was in a toddler bed at 17 months. The guideline said 18 months but I knew he would be so much happier in a bed.
We moved him into his own room at 16 months in the cot so he could get used to it, then in his bed at 17 months. He loved it. We have a gate at his door and that's it. Didn't bother with bed guards at all. We put the cot mattress on the floor the first few nights, but after that he was fine.
Honestly I don't see the point of waiting.

Thank you! My friend said the same thing. The only thing is when he won’t stand because he’s already asleep or floppy and fussy when I put him down which is probably 50% of the time lol 😂 it’ll get easier as he gets older I think, he’s not quite one yet.

Sorry I should’ve said I was replying to MiniDoofa there! Happymummy I am thinking of his own toddler bed but one seems so young! Maybe I need to install a hoist for the time being 😂
