Dressing a crib

Hi all
Just wondered what I need to dress a crib for a newborn. We were given the crib and will definitely buy a new mattress. What is everyone's thoughts on bumpers. I thought they were a definite no but all baby places seem to stock crib sets that include them.

A new mattress, a waterproof sheet ( the hippy chick breathable ones are great), a sheet and a couple of cotton cellular blankets.
Bumpers, duvets and pillows are not suitable for babies (SIDS risk)
