Cots and beds

bedside co-sleeper/crib/Moses basket? Help!

We've already got a cot for our first baby (due in November) which is in its own room, but we can't decide what to do when it's sleeping in our room.

I'd ideally like something it won't quickly grow out of and a bedside co-sleeper really appeals, especially as I hope to breastfeed. I'm not comfortable with the baby co-sleeping in our bed as I'm such a restless sleeper.

However, we have a ridiculously high bed, it's almost 80cms from the floor to the top of the mattress. The only co-sleeper I've found that comes almost that high is the Knuma Huddle. It's £220 inc mattress. They aren't stocked in any shops near us yet so I'd have to buy without seeing it.

Is it worth it? The cot we have is a cheap-ish ikea one so I don't mind spending the money if it's going to be useful.

On a similar note, do we need a Moses basket for the baby to sleep in downstairs? I'd originally thought it could sleep in the carrycot from the pram but now I'm having wobbles!

We put DS in his carrycot for sleeping downstairs. He was fine. Never even considered a Moses basket.

You can get Moses baskets so chwaply nowadays that personally I think it's worth it, and you can sell it on/pass it on afterwards.

We rented a co-sleeper from Bednest/NCT with our last baby but I'm considering getting a cheap second-hand rocking/gliding crib instead this time - I think the movement will be more useful than the sliding-onto-our-bed thing. I bf for a year and a half but to be how at, although I liked having my son so near, I don't think the ease of access was that useful as he was a light sleeper and impossible to dreamfeed anyway.

The good thing about the Bednest is that you can get a full refund within 30 days if you decide it's not for you, so you could maybe try it and see if it suits your bed?

Get the bedside sleeper if you can - you can always sell it on after 6 months to recoup some money.

It's the one thing I'd get without hesitation if I had another baby. Will be so much easier for breastfeeding and getting sleep!

You don't need anything else for downstairs - pram carrycot will be fine.
