Cots and beds

Is a mid sleeper bed safe for 3 year old?

Hello, I love the fun of the mid sleeper beds with the slde, ladder etc.
But I'm worried if our 3 year old will wake up one night in the dark, forget she's high up, and fall out and break god knows what.
Has anyone had any problems?
Is there a way to protect the opening?

We have our our ds 3.8 in a mid sleeper for a couple of months now. He has a ladder but we decided against the slide option as it came too far out into the bedroom.

It would be very difficult to fall out of as it has a raised bit around the mattress. If our ds wakes in the night, he always calls, he hasn't attempted to climb out during the night yet. We have the opening at the top where we keep his pillow, purely as we didn't want the ladder going into the middle of the room (we went for a sloped ladder and side handle)

We love the bed, it takes a while to get used to changing the sheets but now we can do it just as easily as a normal bed. We read the research and it seems that most accidents on them occur during waking hours, so we have a 'no playing' on the bed rule, especially when friends are here.

Hope that helps.
