Covid

Positive LFT after 10 days Isolation

Hi, hoping someone can answer a quick qu please. My childrens’ school is experiencing a Covid outbreak. 17 positive in 1 class, 12 in another. A mobile testing unit is arriving next week for negative students and parents. All primary students are asked to do LFT’s every morning. My two both tested positive 8 days ago. Both had symptoms for about 3 or 4 days before. One child had 2 negatives on day 5 and 6 so back in school. Today’s LFT for my child still isolating is still a massive glowing positive. What happens come Monday, day 11, when isolation is over but my child still tests positive? My child is symptom free but if he still tests positive on Monday can he go back into school? Especially given kids are asked to do daily LFT’s and the mobile testing unit is being brought in? At day 11 will someone by positive but non-contagious? Many thanks for any input. I don’t want to send him back in and carry on infecting everyone but all the recent changes have left me unsure.

It doesn’t matter. They can leave isolation.

They shouldn’t be tested by the mobile testing unit so soon after having had covid.

They won’t be tested via the mobile unit, it’s just for those who haven’t (yet) tested positive. So once iso ends, he can go back into school even if still positive? That’s the bit I’m not sure about. I know iso ends on Sunday, I just don’t want to send him in and infect others. Many thanks

Yes, as long as they’re post the isolation period, it really doesn’t matter.

Ah perfect, that’s what I needed to know. Much appreciated PurpleDaisies.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection
You do not need to take any more LFD tests after the 10th day of your self-isolation period and you may stop self-isolating after this day. This is because you are unlikely to be infectious after the 10th day of your self-isolation period. Even if you have a positive LFD test result on the 10th day of your self-isolation period you do not need to take any more LFD tests after this day and you do not need a follow-up PCR test. If you are concerned you may choose to limit close contact with other people, especially those who are at higher risk of severe illness until 14 days after the start of your self-isolation period.

I tested faint positive approx day 18. Had negatives in between, but first week back to work did lft and there was a faint positive line staring back at me!
However, work knew it was due to previous infection and not a new infection.

Thank you both as well. This is our first experience with a + and just around the rule changes too. Given we’re on day 8 there’s no point testing again and back to school on Monday. This outbreak has wiped out over half the school though! They have been dropping like flies with some asymptomatic and others very ill. Very much appreciate the replies.

Similar thing is happening in our school - there are 10 kids off in my dc's class. None of children have tested negative on days 5 and 6 yet. Waiting to see what happens with my dc on Sunday! 😬

The test is still positive because you are still shedding the virus but you are no longer infectious after ten days.

I think we were lucky with my youngest testing negative by day 6. I did test again today just out of interest but it’s a definite negative. My oldest on the other had showed positive within seconds! Honestly, last Friday was just message after message of kids testing +. But neither my husband nor l have. We are vaxxed but given both kids bed hop, I was expecting at least a positive with no symptoms. Thank you all, you’ve been very helpful given my limited knowledge. As long as my oldest isn’t going to infect anyone, that’s all I needed to know. Much appreciated

Sorry, just one last question. Half my children's’ friends are isolating now. Ours finishes today. Can my children visit their respective isolating friends (no crossing classes) or not? Parents wouldn’t come into contact but I ask as one specific child has been off for a totally unrelated reason for about 3 months, returned on Monday, and is now isolating until at least beginning Feb. So basically at home for coming up to 4 months and is fed up. Can his now non-isolating class mate visit? Many thanks
