Dp has tested positive. Doesn't have any major symptoms yet and feels fine.

Our house is pretty small, no spare bedroom but Dp did sleep on sofa last night - he is a bit weird and likes sleeping on the sofa anyway as it's new and extremely comfy! I did offer him the bed 😅

We have two dc with sen who don't really understand.

Only on day one and finding it hard to distance from each other.

I'm also a little under the weather, caught something off Dd. Both tested negative on pcr - twice! So atm I'm feeling worse than Dp and I can't do it all on my own! Our kids are very fully on! Preparing that we may get covid on top of it!

But I've heard that a lot of people isolate in their rooms but tbh I just can't see how it would work in this house. Dp isn't overly ill so doesn't want to spend all day in the bedroom doing nothing, he's not the type to do nothing unless he was actually really ill which he isn't. The kids wouldn't leave him alone anyway as they don't understand.

What are we meant to do?!

I am taking precautions. Like no close hugging, extra cleaning, opening doors and windows for ventilation etc. What else can I do?

I didn't even attempt to isolate from my child, I think it's daft to even bother unless anyone is CV.

I couldn’t and wouldn’t even try to isolate

I'd just carry on as normal in your circumstances. We don't have a spare room and you have to walk through the living room (which is also where I work) to get to the kitchen and bathroom so there's no way we can isolate from each other.

We always took the view that if one of us got it we were all in it together. Didn't bother trying to isolate within the house, like you've said, it would have been unworkable

We have a small house too with no feasible way to isolate and DC with additional needs. When DH and DC had covid there was no sensible way to isolate so we didn't bother. I didn't get infected (well done Moderna vaccine!)

I didn't isolate from dp at all and i got covid off him. It seemed inevitable that I would anyway and I wanted it over and done with before Christmas. I might have behaved differently if i was vulnerable though.

I am thinking the same. Obviously I don't want covid but at the same time I'll have some degree of protection for Christmas and can read a bit - that's if I get it! Knowing my luck I'll test positive on his last day of isolation and then it'll be pretty much Christmas Day! 🤷‍♀️

I think you just have to accept the risk that you might catch it. I have 2 friends who've had it in their household, both live in relatively small houses with only one bathroom and no spare bedroom......1 carried on as normal when her youngest had it, it was winter so fewer doors & windows open, did no extra cleaning or mask wearing and no one else in the household caught it. The other slept on the sofa, it was summer so had doors and all windows open, wore a mask when in the bathroom and kitchen and did an extraordinary amount of cleaning and they all came down with it!!
If you're "under the weather" i would get a PCR test though.

I'm having the same issue. We're keeping windows open as much as possible (and putting on lots of thermals!) and I'm constantly anti bac-ing everything I touch, going to the bathroom before him etc. I've also recommend he takes First Defence each day. Never sure if it does anything but figure it can't do any harm. We've accepted that he may well get it anyway, regardless of what we do.

I wouldn’t bother to be honest and we have the space to be able to do it. Being in the house for 10 days is bad enough without being stuck in one room even away from your family, plenty of people haven’t caught it from other people in their household even when sleeping in the same bed so I would take my chances and would never isolate from my child

Absolutely will get tested again but I've had a bad cough and toe negative pcrs (one yesterday). Dd also has a cough two and two negative pcrs in the last week before Dp was a close contact. I think it's just a coincidence I have a cough at the same and not covid - yet!! Dp almost definitely got it at work as many have tested positive over the weekend like
Dp.

I don’t know anyone who has isolated inside their household, I just don’t think it’s feasible unless you’ve got a massive house and no or adult children.

My DS2 had it and we kept our distance a bit but didn't properly isolate. DS1 got it but DH, DD and I didn't.

I do know one person whose DC voluntarily stayed in their bedroom but everyone else has carried on as normal with sensible tweaks. I wouldn't bother

We isolated dd1 - she’s a teen and was happy to stay in her room surrounded by technology. Her best friend was doing the same so they FaceTimed while watching tv etc. She came and joined evening meals - gelled her hands as she left her room and wore a mask when not in her room or eating. She sat more than 2m to eat and we had windows open. She’s not a very huggy child but even she after isolating had 3 days where she barely left my side and snuggled on the sofa with me. My younger 2 would not have been able to do that. It depends on individual circumstances. If you’re vaccinated then I’d just avoid kissing dh but otherwise carry on as normal.
